Hi,
Driving along quite happily yesterday and suddenly got the Check Engine light on. Scanned the codes today and got P0400 Exhaust gas recirculation error.
The car has done 110k miles and had been in storage until recently for 6 years.
Is the EGR valve easy to get at on this car (it's got a supercharger sitting over most of the engine!) and is there an easy fix?
TIA!

P0400 code after sitting in traffic - 2001 Daimler Super V8
Re: P0400 code after sitting in traffic - 2001 Daimler Super V8
DQ,
Whilst it could be the EGR valve choked up, I have also read of other issues on the supercharged engines that can cause P0400.
Some reported issues seem to relate to cracked or perished pipes leading to the EGR. In addition there are TSBs and recalls relating to the EGR setup. See this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8- ... al-133344/
I've also read of others who had the problem on XKRs and it was resolved by replacing the supercharger actuator valve. Apparently there are some vacuum tests that can be done to check the valve.
Good luck with your investigations.

Re: P0400 code after sitting in traffic - 2001 Daimler Super V8
Thanks for the info, Paul.
Mentioned it today to Paul Titheradge of Wiltshire Jaguar who services the car and he looked puzzled and told me he hadn't heard of that particular engine coming up with EGR problems. He said it's safe to drive and suggests I clear the code and wait to see if it comes back before going any further.
Code clearance later in the week.

Cleared the code today and drove about 20 miles with some stop/start and the code has not returned.
Fingers crossed!

Well, covered about 80 miles since clearing the code and, so far, it hasn't returned!
Hope to start on the leather seat clean & polish tomorrow!

Hi David, good news on the code.
I cleaned my seats a few years ago,I didn't think think they were too bad but was surprised how much dirt came off.
Well worth doing and does the leather good as well.
Take care.

Re: P0400 code after sitting in traffic - 2001 Daimler Super V8
P0400 came back on a trip of about 60 miles a couple of days ago. After some main road driving, got onto a dual carriageway and up to just a little over 70 mph. Fine for a mile or two then the MIL light came on as I throttled back for a roundabout. Weird.

Re: P0400 code after sitting in traffic - 2001 Daimler Super V8
Took the car out yesterday after it sat for a week and became aware of what sounded like something loose hitting the back end.
Cut a long story short, the car was backfiring. It stopped after about 4 miles.
Could this be related to the EGR valve issue or something separate?
TIA

David,
Has the EML and P0400 still been on since you reported on Dec 15th? Or did they clear themselves or you clear them?
What codes have been thrown as a result of the backfiring? Has the backfiring just cleared itself now?

Hi Paul,
Haven't checked the codes and the MIL light is still on. The backfire cleared itself after a few miles and the engine was up to normal temperature.
I'll try it again in a couple of days after the bad weather we're about to get.
