Forum Newbie

Postby Besty » Sun Apr 14, 2024 10:32 pm

Good evening one and all.
I hope you are all well.
I just thought i would introduce myself, as I have been a JEC member for the last year, but never posted on the forum.
My name is Stuart, and I am from West Yorkshire.
Whilst new to the forum, I am not so new to the XF's - having owned a few in the past.
Currently, I own a 2009 Jaguar XFR, which I use daily - got to get the most from the VED :D, but previously have owned two XFS's.
Since buying the XFR in January 2023, from up in Scotland, I have had a few bits of preventative work carried out to her.
In August last year, I had the timing chains, guides and tensioners all changed, as well as the supercharger refurbished, as the coupler was clunking on shutdown. The Chains, although probably not required to be done, I did so for piece of mind.
I also had the spark plugs replaced, as well as an upper pulley upgrade. The wheels I have had refurbished, as they were looking a bit bad, as there were some curbing from the last owner.
she gets serviced every 6 months, again more for piece of mind than anything else.
Overall, I have had no issues with her at all - bought it at 87k mileage, and is currently just over 102k.
There is some small niggles, but nothing major. to name but two - the alarm keeps being intermittently activated by the bonnet sensor, and the other is, I need to be almost on top of the car, for my keys to work (both keys have had new batteries).
However, overall, I love my motor, and go to a lot of meets and shows - hopefully I will get to meet some of you lovely people in the near future.
Best wishes
Stuart

Hi Stuart,
Nice looking car, and the usage is always a bonus. I love using mine (have an SV8, precursor to the XFR) and as my only motor it means she gets used quite often, also now on about 104k miles. Previously owned a 3.0D XF, that was a mix of torque and great MPG, but was missing petrol.

Love to read an article about your current and past XF's.

Hi Stuart, thanks for posting!
With regard to the bonnet sensor, I also had a failing sensor. Having tried and failed to fix it by adjusting either the bonnet stops or the sensor I concluded that it was intermittently faulty.
If I remember rightly it's fitted underneath the passenger side 'claw' that catches the bonnet pin, but looked very fiddly to remove and replace. But you can access the 2 wires. So I simply cut and linked the wires together because it alarms on loss of continuity. Clearly this disables the alarm function of the bonnet switch, but I figured if someone has lifted the bonnet they are probably inside the car already!

Hi Stuart and welcome to the forums.
Your car looks awsome,it has that look of brutality about it :D .
Hope you get the small niggles sorted out easily.
Enjoy and take care.
