Wiper Intermittent fault

Postby Doherto » Wed Oct 05, 2022 2:54 pm

I know I know, Don't take her out in the rain. Unfortunately I had to today, and in South Wales last week which is when I noticed the problem starting. Everything has been perfect up to last week when the intermittent wipe paused on the limit of the wipe to the Near Side. After a few seconds it returned to the park position and worked normally for a while. This happened once every ten strokes or so which meant that I knew a problem was coming. Today the wiper stuck on the near side and I had to switch to continuous wipe to get the wiper back to the park position. That worked ok but then when quickly selecting continuous wipe and switching it off to get a single wipe the wiper stopped as soon as I switched the wiper selector arm to the off position. I then had to select continuous wipe and switch it off when the wiper reached park. When I arrived home and tested the system again it all worked perfectly for the first five or six tests and then reverted to the intermittent problem. Looking at the circuit diagram the delay, which works ok is controlled by the CPU but the other movements are controlled by the Wiper Logic Module which from my understanding of electronic modules do not go intermittent. I therefore suspect mechanical connections on the wiper selector on the column or on the Wiper Logic Module. Before I start to dismantle the column I thought that this must have happened to someone else and therefore my post to request the benefit of your experience and welcome any support and thoughts. there’s a microswitch inside the wiper housing that needs changing. It’s a very simple job, and a cheap part.

Thanks Naki, first job when she comes out of hibernation, in a friends garage 100 miles away, on April 1st.

Naki, can you confirm, easily, that SNG part number JLM11332 is the switch you mention. If so I can order it now to save time. Thanks Tony D

If that is the correct switch, at £22, I have found an equivalent on eBay at £1.99 :D

This problem is solved, now she is home from hibernation, however, with a very large twist. I have documented the information gleamed and sent it of to Roy Semple for publication in the club magazine, as its too long to post here. Happy to receive PM's if anyone is suffering the same issue.
