Front spring replacement cost

Good morning all.

I need to replace a broken front coil spring on my X100 XKR-S Coupe due to MOT failure.

Also an upper ball joint rubber (deteriorated).
I am being quoted for 5 hours labour for this ("assuming we don't have anything seized").
Does this seem about right? The upper arm bushes have all been replaced in the last 3 years so hopefully there shouldn't be too much trouble re- seizure etc.
I have done this job myself on other cars in the past but the Jag is a bit of a different beast!
Any advice gratefully received.

That number of hours is slightly less than Jaguar's standard times for the tasks involved, so be prepared for the bill to be larger, particularly if any problems are encountered. Mike.

I took one of the arch liners off today to have a look and also to clean up generally and I was pleased to see that other than a bit of light surface rust it was in good shape.

Does anybody know the recommended torque values for the front suspension upper arm bolt, upper arm ball joint nut and anti-roll bar mounting?

Try these figures (in NM) from Jaguar for the front suspension of 2006MY X100 cars:
Nut - ball joint-upper 60-80
Nut - ball joint-lower 60-80
Bolt - brake disc shield 9-11
Bolt - crossbeam front mounting bracket to body 77-103
Bolt - crossbeam rear mounting to body 77-103
Bolt - crossbeam to rear mounting 26-34
Bolt - crossbeam to engine mounting 34-46
Nut - hub rotor nut 270-330
Nut - shock absorber lower pivot 60-80
Nut - shock absorber upper stud (non-adaptive damping) 30-40
Nut - shock absorber upper stud (adaptive damping) 16-18
Nut - spring and shock absorber upper-mounting to body 26-34
Bolt - stabilizer bar bracket to crossbeam 22-28
Nut - stabilizer bar to link 60-80
Nut - stabilizer bar link to lower wishbone 39-55

Is there any difference to the recommended torques depending on wheel size? I.E 20" wheels?
What is the reason for the spread of torque figures - I.E 98-132nm?

There are no differences dependent upon wheel sizes. Similarly, the range of torque settings is just that, an acceptable range according to Jaguar. Obviously, if you are used to seeing the numbers expressed in imperial measurements, the metric numbers, being larger will appear to be larger with relatively wider ranges. Mike.
