Won't start when engine is warm

Hi guys
My 78 yr old dad has a 52 plate s type Auto.. 3.0 litre petrol..he's owned the car for many years..recently he would start the car from cold and go about his buisness..when leaving the car switched off for aprox 45 minutes it would not restart unless it was jumped using jump leads..so off to halfords to have the battery replaced..the car had a yuassa battery fitted which was aprox 5yrs old..we were told the battery just needed to be charged...however my dad went for another yuassa battery which cost £150..and was more powerful on crank voltage than his 5yr old previous battery..the new battery is now 3 months old..and the problem had gone away...now its back the car needs to be jumped when ever the engine is warm..the car starts from cold with no issues..need to mention he replaced the battery in his remote fob..a while ago..the remote fob doesn't work and he locks and unlocks the car with the key..it wasn't long after the battery replacement in the re.ote fob that the starting problem occurred..could these 2 issues be linked..any help would be greatly appreciated..I'm a jec member so is he..I have a x358 diesel

Does the engine turn over when warm? Presume not if you have to jumpstart it? If it starts easily when cold then presumably the battery is ok. If it turns over but won't fire when warm then I would suspect a fuel supply issue.

She turns over when warm..but it seems like the battery is low..whenadding jump leads it starts first time..I think something is draining the battery..but not sure what..the car is not worth much..so don't want to spend a lge amount of money on it..but my dad won't part with it..thinking of getting a diagnostics done on it..see what it comes up with..could the key fob remote have something to do with it..as it's not worked since my dad replaced the battery

I don't think the key fob would, unless it's not deadlocking the car, ie after double clicking the fob. This is, I believe, necessary to shut down all the car systems, and I guess potentially that could leave some systems running. However, if that were the case the problem would happen from a cold start too, likewise if interior lamps etc were staying on. Tricky one, hopefully someone will have some ideas...

I agree the fact that the problem went away for 3 months suggests a battery problem, may be worth asking Halfords to replace it, as it will still be under warranty?

Thanks for your reply.. just had it looked at by an independent garage..starter motor is knackered..they want £545 plus vat..car is worth only a little more..I sourced 1 from europarts for £140..am going to replace it myself..any ideas how difficult it is to do..and where it is situated..cheers Troy
