Window Controls

Postby rosemary » Thu Apr 21, 2022 7:41 pm

My car :-2005 2.7d suddenly has stopped all window controls working i.e. front and back from drivers door controls, what's gone wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Folks
I disconnected the battery left for an hour then reconnected, no joy from controls. I then tried a universal opening from the Key Fob, all windows opened. I then tried Universal Closing from key fob, the front windows closed but not the rears. I tried the Key Fob opening again, the fronts opened. I followed by the Key Fob closing action and Nothing happened. All the windows are now stuck open. What a sod!!! Car cover now on car!!!

No suggestions yet ,does that mean a telephone call to ASM and get the scrap value. i've tried everything, checked fuses etc disconnected the battery completely and connected a short between positive and negative cables to drain ECU's. All the resetting procedures work except anything to do with the windows which still do nothing. Interestingly the only thing I've never been able to fix properly has been the Parking Aid over the years, I now have two spare Parking Aid ECU's in the spares kit both with the correct issue number for this car. The car is a Gold Mine for the likes of AutoReserve or ASM, being a body with all new parts over it's life of 17 years. Reliability in it's 155,000 miles is not even worth mentioning in any comparison with some notable alternative vehicles in the same category. I've never been able to drive any distance without the knowledge that the AA or Green Flag are a phone call away even in the middle of France. I must be an idiot for sticking with the car over these past years. I now have an XF I must be more of a lunatic, although I do have a BMW Mini Clubman Estate which just goes and goes and goes and everything works all the time.

Dave, I can feel the frustration!! Unfortunately I have no answers though, is there a separate window control module? Would seem unlilkely, as normally central locking and window controls are in one module I think. Hopefully someone more familiar with the S Type will know.

A similar issue on here, though no definitive answer I'm afraid.

I've searched the internet sites most relevant and Jaguar Classic have the "Door Module" which controls Windows , door locking, Mirrors, Seat Memory switches. With the exception of the Windows all the other functions are working.Problem is the cost of the module on it's own exceeds the value of the car. AutoReserve have the same module(used) for cars up to 2002 for around £50 but not sure if they would be compatible with mine. I still can't figure out where the module is located, module location diagrams are really vague,I don't want to go dismantling the car to find it to simply check numbers.

Autoreserve are really good in my experience, I am sure if you phone them with your VIN they will be able to say if the one they have will fit. As to how you get to it, well, although I had an S Type for a few years, luckily I never had that issue. The whole car died before the windows stopped working :D

Hi rosemary.
Don't know if you have come across this thread.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s-ty ... nge-98225/
The problem turned out to be a broken wire :(
It took a lot of finding but he got there in the end.
Hope you get it sorted.
Good luck.
Andy :)

Well folks
it's all magic.
I plugged my iSoft Reader in and looked at the "Door Module" it showed "needed a reset". Even though the Memory Seat 1 and 2 still worked as did the Mirror controls I cleared all the DTC's on this item and low and behold it all started again, i.e.windows working, Couldn't believe it. No explanation anywhere. All done by magic and a great lack of information from the Jaguar Workshop manual. Car is now going up for sale before anything else happens . The Parking Aid front and Rear still doesn't work and hasn't for about 10 years. All spares ,useful or otherwise ,will be included.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Really glad you got it all sorted.
Sorry to hear you are going to sell it but when problems keep arising they drag you down,I know from past vehicles I've had.
Probably something else just waiting to happen so I understand your decision to sell.
Good luck with the sale, hope you don't get too many time wasters.
Take care.

RK05DYM selling for about 1000 quid no guarantee about anything, will take an offer but not anything like “We Buy Any Car’s” offer which is less than the scrap value at ASM. Dave.

Hello Folks
Just an update with some interest thrown in.
Had the car up for sale, got two interests, both asked the same questions re mileage, problems ,MOT, Service etc but only one came back.
He offered £350, my response to him was here I come ASM, the scrap value is more. One of my son's is going to have it when they can come and get it. So I'm not selling, it's a great car with a character, a get well soon every now and then type of thing, a body with all new bits.It looks and goes good too just like a real Jag!.
One interesting thing though with the window controls, they failed again when I was tucking it away after putting it on SORN. I had been going back and forward a bit at idling speeds to tuck it away in a corner of my yard and the window open and close failed to operate. I thought "oh well" it'll have to stay like that for a while,so I finished fiddling about and plugged in the CTEK in the boot. I tried to close the windows as a last shot and low and behold they worked. I checked the date I changed the battery and this was done in March 2016, more or less 6 years ago. The battery had a 4 year guarantee. Perhaps the battery had or was becoming weak and perhaps there is a high resistance connection on the window controls who knows?

Good to keep it, also means he can dump it back on you if he gets fed up with it! All Jags are very temperamental with batteries that are even getting a bit tired, so maybe a replacement is worthwhile. 6 years is pretty good, most people seem to think 5 is about average. Good luck.
