Air filter replacement

Postby Xjman » Thu Dec 02, 2021 6:44 pm

Has anyone replaced their air filter to a K&N performance filter if so have they had any problems.
Also has any one replaced the plastic air in take to a caldoofy stainless steel in take and was there any problems or improvements to engine or supercharger.
The x350 I have is a 2003 XJR

I fitted a K&N filter to my previous xjr, it was fine. Not sure about your other query though.

You are unlikely to have any problems with K&N filters which replace the standard one, although cone filters are a different matter, as they draw in warm engine bay air reducing charge density, thus power. The Caldoofy intake is aluminium, like the Mina Gallery one fitted to my XJR

claims about an extra 15 bhp. To be frank, I couldn't tell the difference after fitting, but have a number of other enhancements, so 15 bhp could be seen as a drop in the ocean.

The main reason for the intake change was that the original started to distort and chafe on the charge cooler hoses. You will notice an increase in supercharger howl because neither the Caldoofy nor Mina Gallery replacements contain silencing chambers.

ETA: Mine has been on for several years and 30,000 + miles without any problems.

I ran a K&N successfully for 80,000 miles on my old X350 and have the same fitted in my Range Rover which has the Jaguar 4.2 S/C engine.

I also took a blade and trimmed the plastic strakes in the lower part of the airbox to try and maximise and smooth the air intake flow.
