Irish road trip

Postby stujags » Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:32 pm

Greenie the £500 e bay bargain is off around Ireland next week. She’s been welded, serviced and had various oil leaks, suspension, break, cooling and intake issues fixed at home. Will she make it ?

Good luck with the trip Stu,

What charity is it this time?

Are you doing North Coast or all over Ireland? I'm planning a North Coast trip for Spring next year.

Cheers

Fingers crossed if Greenie behaves we should catch ferry from South Wales to Rosslare tomorrow. Then travel to Cork for our first night. From there we make our way up to Galway before heading home via Holyhead. We only have four days so just covering Southern Ireland. Normally we use Rusty for these trips but this time taking Greenie who failed her MOT quite spectacularly earlier this year. I have welded body and exhaust, given it a full service (Don’t think it had been done for years, you wouldn’t believe the state of the oils)freed off breaks, fixed rocker cover leaks and replaced thermostat, think that’s it ? Took her out for a good run today (nothing like leaving to the last minute) and everything seems ok. I wonder is there a JEC group in Ireland, we might need your help…..

Some how Greenie has made it to Southern Ireland without any issues. These cars are so comfortable even by today’s standards, what the where like when new must have been something else?

Today we made it to Tralee, we had to cut some of the route short after the front break calliper fell off and wrapped itself around the disk. Luckily we found one bolt and did a temporary repair to get to a garage. After replacing the missing bolt we where back on our way.

Crikey, you had a lucky escape there.
I saw this happen once before on another members car. We found the bolts on the road further back too.
They need to be done up pretty tight. Maybe add some locktite to be sure.
Looks like a great trip there anyhow. Enjoy.

Brilliant four day trip around Southern Ireland. Greenie performed really well (despite loosing a break calliper, I highly recommend lock tight for these Bolt’s ). We traveled from Fishguard to Rosslare, down to Cork and then North via Wild Atlantic way to Galway. Yesterday we had the long drive home across Ireland, across Wales and back home. Highly recommend Ireland for any one thinking of it. Not bad for a £500 Jag that was destined for the scrapyard 6 months ago. The stats of the trip.. 858miles, 25.9mp,1ltr of screenwash, break calliper bolt and lots of Guinness.

Glad you had a good journey Stu and the Jag went well.
Thanks for posting the photo's,they are always nice when telling an adventure.
Sorry to hear about the misfortune with the brake caliper but at least you got it sorted without too much hassle.
Take care and stay safe.
