Noisy hood operation

My latest acquisition (1989 V12 Convertible) has not really been used for a long time and I am a bit concerned about the roof operation which is rather noisy. It lifts well and fairly quietly but as soon as the front section gets near vertical it 'groans' more and more loudly, all the way to the back. Switching to manual it feels stiffer than I would expect, even accounting for having to push hydraulic oil around the system. I have sprayed most of the accessible pivots with a thin lube oil and the ram plungers feel smooth and I have wiped those with silicone grease. The fluid is between the two marks.

Any thoughts - does it just need using more often? I don't want to shear a tight pivot pin!!
