A-Pillar Exterior -- Plastic finisher for Chrome Trim

Hi, all;

I'm sure I saw something about these parts here recently, but cannot find the topic.

On the exterior of the car, immediately forward of the mirrors, just to the rear of the door gap -- the chrome trim terminates at the base of the A Pillar. There is a piece of black plastic that inserts into the end of the trim and finishes it at the base of the pillar.

One of mine has crumbled, and the other looks ready to do the same. I'll try the various Jaguar breakers this week, but wondered if anyone has a part number for this black plastic finisher.

Hi.
Common problem on all these models from X300 onwards. This part has not been available for a long time, and latterly was only available as part of the rest of the trim at £100's. Jaguar have a lot to answer for their supply of parts, and their prices, it's no wonder that their newer cars are less supported than their older cars, along with their overall dealer customer support. Sorry, that was a bit of a rant.

I am in the same position, I have just spent close to £10k on my X308 super V8, looking fantastic except for these trim ends, Most of the used ones I've seen as part of the full trim are loads of money and usually as brittle !!
Has anyone managed to replicate these out of any other material, I was toying with a rubber extruded piece or build it up with a black mastic ?
Any help will be appreciated by a lot more than just me by the looks of it.

Thank you for taking the time to post. And no apologies needed for the rant -- that silly part is well worth a good rant.

The plastic finisher cap on my Jensen Interceptor's power antenna cracked and failed, and through the skills of friends' teenage children, they used their 3D printer to make several that were a perfect match and fit. Oddly, the most rewarding repair to my car. I know nothing about how that process works, but if I had a good Jag plastic finisher for the chrome trim, I'd certainly remove it so they could have a go at reproducing it. I'll visit some BC salvage yards and see what I can find; if I find a good enough part for their reproduction, and if they can pull off the same kind of magic they did for my Interceptor, I'll ask them to make extras, and will contact you to see about contact details to send them off. Lots of ifs there, but one never knows.

I also have the same problem. Given this is an old thread, has anyone made any progress on this before I start down the same rabbit hole? Almost everything else is looking good on my XJR apart from the small rubber 'stopper' at the end of this trim now being gone.

Hi folks, obviously an inherent fault / issue and one that Jaguar are unlikely to do anything about. There are now quite a number of folks using 3D printing to replicate older plastic part replacement, but appreciate that you don't yet have something that the whizz kids can scan to get the basic shape. I visited the Auto Sport show in 2024 and was amazed by the number of offering's for 3D printing.

It might be a long shot, but assuming that you can remove the offending / failed stopper from the lower end of the trim, keeping it relatively intact, might it be possible to carve something in wood or soft plastics to replicate the finished whole piece and then use that to ask for a 3D printed replacement in an appropriate material?

Going back to "making it out of wood" might be the way to go!

Thanks Jim. Sounds like 3D printing could be the way to go. I don't have an example of what's needed, as they were removed by the garage that did some paintwork on my car and were never put back. I'll keep an eye out for something that could be used as a 'model' or see if there's a way of crafting something suitable that could be replicated in a suitable material.
