I have a 21,000 mile 1989 HE Coupe with Falken 225/60 15s fitted to the road wheels. The spare was fitted with what looks like an original Pirelli P600 235/60 VR15 until recent update to match road wheels. The now removed Pirelli appears barely used and has full tread depth. Although old, it has been kept as a spare i.e. minimally exposed to sunlight / UV etc. Could it be of value to anybody?
Re: Tyres
Charles,
I can't see the date markings from your photo. However, if it's 32 years old, irrespective of whether it's been in the boot, I'd politely suggest that the tyre should definitely not be used on the road.
It's just my suggestion. As always, it's a personal choice of course.
Cheers
Paul

Re: Tyres
Paul,
Thanks. Wasn't sure about that. The wheel specialists I used to refurb the wheel and fit the Falken said it was a good tyre and a shame to dispose of it! Any idea where I would find a date mark? It's got to be at least 10 years old whichever way you look at it I guess...
Cheers,
Charles

Re: Tyres
Charles,
On the sidewall, there will be a 4-digit number in an oval window. The first 2 digits equal the week of the year (01 - 52) and the second 2 digits equal the year (18 = 2018)
If the tyre doesn't seem to have this, look for a 7-13 digit code preceded with DOT. Again the last 4 digits equal the week and year.
If the code is only 3 digits, then the tyre is pre-2000 and coded by first 2 digits equalling the week and the last digit equal the year. (you can't tell which decade)
Personally, I wouldn't fit a tyre that is more than 10 years old, irrespective of apparent condition.
Hope that helps

Re: Tyres
Thanks Paul,
I've tracked down a 129 code at the end of the DOT numbers which suggests that it may have been supplied with the car in May 1989. The car only has 21,000 miles on it now so its most likely the original spare. I'll have to ask myself if there is any value in retaining it as part of the car's history or otherwise including it in the next to the tip!
Cheers,
Charles
