Sometimes the simplest solutions....

A salutary lesson?
I was driving my Mk2 back from the South coast to Essex when it overheated on the A3 near Guildford. As I was cruising along the temperature gauge gradually rose until I had to stop.
Having let the car cool down I refilled with water and tentatively drove home the remaining 50 miles.
Based on the squeaky noise I suspected the water pump needed replacing so a new one was duly ordered together with a new temp sender, thermostat and radiator cap.
I flushed the system, fitted all the new parts, refilled with anti freeze/ summer coolant and took it for a test drive. When the temp gauge hit 95 and rising I carefully headed home and started scratching my head. What could be the problem? Timing slipped? Faulty new pump? A quick search of my garage revealed the problem - what I thought was diluted, ready to use anti freeze wasn’t! Drain the system, refill with correctly diluted mix and guess what - the car now runs at 80 degrees :D . A lesson learnt....

Regards to all
