Dear All
Just a note re the above to say that if you decided not to go that was almost the right decision.......
Libby and I travelled up Fri pm to stay the weekend. The hotel was packed with Jag-nuts of all types.........but the car park.........it was a Classic Car Show in it's own right with pretty much every model you can name inc. XJ220. All were in great condition and to wander round was a real pleasure.
We met Paul S first thing on Saturday to set up and whilst it drizzled a bit early on the rest of the day was good, if breezy. (Sorry I didn't make it on the run)

Sunday started well, breezy as before but dry and this lasted until 12.30. For those who ignored the forecast and came early a great show was waiting for them with a pretty good array of stands and items for sale.
Once the rain started it just kept coming, till by 2.20 it was pouring down in sheets with buckets and stair-rods attached - enough to stop people walking around it was so wet. The powers that be threw in the towel at about 3.15 and that was it.

We adjourned to the dry for a shower and a change of clothes and left taking things down till this morning when lo and behold it was dry and sunny - ho hum.

If you made the effort I hope you had a good time and it was nice to say hello and chat XJS's to people. If not I can't say I blame you and certainly late arrivals were rewarded with nothing more than a good soaking.
On the day I was persuaded by experts at Meguiar's that
a I'm putting too much polish on my car
b I should massage it with a lump of clay
c Old flannelette bedsheets are strictly 20th Century and I must now polish it with a microfiber (sic) towel.
We'll see how it goes.........
The new motor went beautifully there and back and the now fully-functioning air-con made the journey even more pleasurable, so I'm well-pleased.
Let's hope for better weather at Northern/Southern day.
Best Wishes
Tony

So Thoresby 2009 has come and gone and will sadly be remembered more for being the proverbial wet weekend than for the extraordinary number of cars and people that turned up. The number of cars attending was even more impressive as the forecast for the Sunday had been pessimistic for a week beforehand.
The tone of the weather was set on the Saturday when my 200-mile journey consistend of 1 mile in the dry and 199 miles in pouring rain. I admit that even I succumbed and put the hood up!
With the great help of Tony and Libby, we got the gazebo set up on the Saturday and kept our fingers crossed for the Sunday. And our wishes were granted until midday. Then as Tony has said, the rain started... and continued and continued...
Our gazebo quickly became a refuge from the deluge. Despite the awful weather in the afternoon, it was great to see so many people come over and introduce themselves and talk XJSs. I hope you all got home safely.
As Tony has said, the display of cars and regional stands was hugely impressive and the fortitude of the owners of the XK roadsters who stayed until the bitter end despite the absence of any sidescreens to prevent the rain pouring into the cars, was commendable. I hasten to add that Tony's picture of my car parked in the gazebo, was not a pretentious effort on my part to keep the car dry, but merely a forlorn attempt to try and pack up the boot of the car without more than few gallons of water getting in it!
The journey home on Sunday evening was also quite surreal. I went from thunder and lightening to sun so bright that sunglasses were donned and the weather finally peaked with an inch of snow at the junction of the M1 / M25 !! Honestly!!
Huge thanks are due to Tony and Libby who not only helped throughout the weekend but stayed on and packed up the gazebo this morning. Thanks Guys!!
To all those who turned up and came to see us - Thanks very much - it was good to see you.
Despite the weather, I enjoyed the weekend as always. The sheer range of cars that turns up never ceases to amaze me. Where else can you see a range that spans an early Standard Swallow to an XJ220 (not sure which owner was the bravest under these conditions!)? And the fact that so many people view their cars as treasured possesions but that should still be used in all conditions is a sight to behold.
So whatever the weather forecast says, pop along to Northern & Southern Days - it's always a good day out.
Paul

Well that was that Thorseby 25th anniversary will be remembered for all the wrong reasons, The rain, the naughty wind that destroyed my brand new gazebo after 14 minutes, then the rain, i had a complete breakdown of my lower back making movement a problem, then the rain, also the constant bellowing of the peacocks in the hotel grounds at all hours of the night, then the rain,........however a ray of light on the show field,....my thanks to Paul and the other XJS guys in my hour of need when nature decided my show was over by nicking my gazebo and showing how strong the aluminium struts are on modern equipment. Things will be better prepared for the Newby Hall bash and my vehicle will not be loaded to the gunnels with "stuff" for other things not connected to my Daimler.
A more streamlined approach to the next show, but just in case i will allocate my position in the field next to the XJS forum.....many thanks once again.............Joe Turner X308 forum

Bryan,
Congratulations on the awards!
I think it's great that an XJS owner and one of our Bulletin Board members won Car of the Day.
I feel that a lot of respect is due not only to the concours entrants who braved the weather but also the owners of some of the early cars who had minimal weather protection. There was a group of XK roadsters with no sidescreens parked up with the rain pouring in! At least I was able to put the hood and windows up on my car when the rain became intolerable!
