Hello folks, I hope you can help me regarding the above that I noticed today , one day after car ( 1974 series 2 ) came home after being away for 13 weeks at a jaguar specialist having a problem with cutting out when hot( I mentioned on here before) As we know their is a venting system regarding the rear parcel shelf and I believe the vents in the guttering at the top of the boot you see when it is opened. When closing the door I could hear something rattle and had to open and close the door a couple more times to trace the source. It appears what looks like pieces of board moving about and rattling through these vents with the air vacum when you close the doors, now I have never had cause to even look at these as they have never been an issue as when I shut the boot I bring it all the way down to close then I just gently click it shut as I had always seen my father do as it never needed slamming .I wonder because the boot was accessed to change the fuel filter whether the boot may have been slammed and has then made the material mentioned above come adrift. If anyone has had an issue with the above and have solved problem any advice would be appreciated regards Paul. PS why do garage staff have to slam car doors , boots and the bonnets shut especially during mots ? I have seen this in the majority of garages I have used over many years.

Re: Parcel shelf air circulation issue
The vent 'valves' are in fact only held in position by something akin to tank tape. They often come loose and fall into the large black painted unit where they reside until someone does something about it. Stopping them rattling means lying on your back to release the unit from the boot, refixing them with fresh tape 'hinges' and bolting the unit back into the car. It's basically a labour only task not recommended for anyone with a bad back! Mike.

I noticed a similar thing on mine, at first I thought they were leaves and tried to fish them out. A task for when all the others are done!
