Hello all,
A bit of a XJS geek history question here - but in the current climate, anything will do! - does anyone have any evidence that the 6.0 V12 XJS actually got the updated brake system with the vacuum brake booster (as developed for the X300 XJ) to replace the Teves accummulator system?
My 94 car has a Teves system and, of the current cars I can find on line (including cars registered in 1995 and 1996), all seem to be Teves spec.
The only thing that throws me is that the Jaguar Repair Operation Manual (inc supplement C - for 6.0) shows an illustration of the new system alongside what looks like the RH "A" bank of a V12....
Any 6.0 V12 owners out there with late cars (1995 or 1996) able to shed any light on this?
Kind regards (and stay safe)
Andy
Did the 6.0 V12 XJS ever get the 1995.25MY vacuum booster brake system?

Page 10 and 11 seems to say that it did.

Excellent information - thank you. To my untrained eye, the artwork looks like it is the same between the 1995.25MY technical update sheet and the Jaguar Repair Operation manual.
However, I still can't find any photographic evidence that any 6.0 V12's were actually fitted with this later system. All the images of the UK P registration cars I can find (Aug 1996 - July 1997 cars) have the Teves accumulator in view.
I guess the definitive answer will be to look at P60 XJS - the last V12 XJS built and owned by JDHT.
Does anyone have or know of any underbonnet picture of this or a similar late 1996 P registration car to settle the point?

Bear in mind that very few V12s were built in the latter days. Effectively they were only built to order and many of the sales were of cars from stock that were built earlier.

Re: Did the 6.0 V12 XJS ever get the 1995.25MY vacuum booster brake system?
Hello all,
I think I have now got a definitive answer on the 1995.25MY brake booster update question for the 6.0 V12.
I contacted the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust photographic archive team to see if they had any underbonnet photographs of P60 XJS - the last 6.0 V12 built. After some searching, nothing could be found, so instead they agreed to take some images of the car for me.
Attached are the pictures from the car -> showing definitively that there were some (and I guess these must be very rare indeed!) cars built to this specification with the new vacuum brake system.
So case closed! - And a big thank you to Karam Ram, Tracy Nabbs and Tony Merrigold at the Trust who helped me with my questions. Special mention goes to Tony, as the Vehicle Collections Manager, who actually took the pictures.

Excellent piece of detective work Andy! If you don't mind I'd like to publish this in the magazine

Hi David
More than happy for it to be in the magazine. Please let me know (via pm) if you need any more copy or images etc.
PS - the answer to the picture question in the XJS section of this month's magazine? 1/4 turn fasteners on the engine cover of the 6.0 V12

Thanks Andy for the offer of help. I have sent a PM
You are absolutely right about the mystery picture in this month's magazine - they are the fasteners for the engine cover on the late 6.0 ltr V12. As they have to be removed for servicing and often ping across the workshop you will be lucky to find a car with a full set

I've only just read this. Apols that you had to go to so much effort. Yes theoretically all XJS got changed at the same time 4itre and 6 litre cars over to the revised system from VIN 198335. I've seen a number of late v12 cars to confirm this. As a number of cars didnt get registered until late after manufacture, you sometimes see even "1996 XJS" that are actually 1994-built cars.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your confirmation - I was somewhat puzzled as to why the V12 P reg cars (so late 1996 / early 1997) that I have found on line could still have the "old system" - hence my query as to whether the update actually happened!
I rather enjoyed the sleuthing and all those at the JDHT were brilliant answering my XJS geek questions!
David R is putting the findings into a magazine article in the near future - I'd like to include your VIN cut over information and confirmation about late registrations in the piece (for completeness) - if that is ok?
Kind regards
Andy

Andy,
No problems, David has a lot of my info and will contact me if he needs anything else!
Because we often refer to our XJSs cars by manufacture year, unlike the US owners who refer to them by US model year, it always intrigues me if someone refers to a 96 V12 XJS. There were only 3 made in 96 and none of them are for sale at the moment!
Cheers
