I've now had my 1988 3.6 coupe 5 weeks and managed a quite credible 600 miles in that time. Although for obvious reasons that's going to be tailing off now. That has more relevance to my current issue.........if my car has been started earlier that day or say the day before what i believe is the Teves motor charging up (pardon my ignorance if that's the wrong terminology!) the sphere takes only a second or two. However if left for a few days it takes (i would guess as i havn't timed it) maybe 10 seconds before it stops and the ABS light goes out. I'm aware that i shouldn't let the motor run for too long, but how long is too long? I assume this means that over a period of time the sphere is losing pressure. Does this mean it will need replacing or are there seals that will need to be refurbished ? If so is this likely to be expensive as it's not the sort of thing i'm likely to be able to do myself ?
Re: Teves
Paul,
Changing the sphere is something you can do yourself, although you ought to then go through a bleeding process to ensure air expulsion.
However, your 10 second charge of the accumulator is fine. My car has probably taken longer than that every time I start it for the last 15 years!
The discharge of the accumulator happens every time you hit the brake pedal, so you would expect some charge to have been lost even when you're parking up the car and holding your foot on the pedal.
Hope that helps,
Paul

Paul,
"DO NOT allow the pump motor to run for more than two minutes. If the motor does exceed the two minute time limit, immediately switch off the ignition (POSITION 0) . Allow the motor to cool for at least ten minutes before continuing with the bleed procedure."
As Paul says, after standing for a period, the pump can run for quite some time. Mine runs for getting on for a minute.
Paul.
(At least there are no philosophers named Bruce here; that would be confusing
)
The workshop manual under bleeding the system says:... I'm aware that i shouldn't let the motor run for too long, but how long is too long? ...

Re: Teves
Thanks guys; it looks like i can cross that off my list for now then. I'm really enjoying the car, but would rather be "safe than sorry" over issues like this so your feedback has put my mind at rest..........at least about the ABS anyway!
Re: Teves
Guide here and a source for the spheres.
