Hello Folks
I also am a victim of Jaguar's designed life corrosion specification on two of my earlier cars (S Types) the third (XF) is just about arriving at the same destination. The first S Type (3.0L SE) dropped it's exhaust system when the hangers rusted away. The second S Type(2.7d) rusted out four of the engine coolant system pipes,a terminal illness I'm afraid, the engine installation is brilliantly designed such that it has to come out to replace a nine inch by half inch diameter piece of pipe with a labour cost at least four time the value of the car The first symptoms are becoming evident on the XF (MY 10)in the form of suspension mountings. I'm afraid as per many others I have jumped ship and bought a BMW I'm only remaining a member of the club because I've still got the XF but when that gets a terminal illness which by experience is likely to be fairly soon who knows.

I know this is an old thread , But at the end of the day you get what you pay for. I have a 2013 Mercedes SL and its more or less like a new car underneath. Put the SL next to say an XK and the Jag will be several thousand pounds cheaper. But you have to think to yourself why.
To me its obvious.

Marketing rather than engineering is the simple answer to that. One merely has to examine long term survival rates to establish the truth. There are numerous 20 plus year old Jags still providing daily service, conversely I cannot remember the last time I saw a 20 year old Mercedes Benz in daily use, despite the latter's production numbers being multples of the former.I know this is an old thread , But at the end of the day you get what you pay for. Our 2013 83,000 mile XFR has light surface corrosion to the rear subframe, as has the 2008 153,000 mile XJR. So what? A couple of hours every five years cleaning and refinishing is much less onerous than dealing with the multiple electronic, brake, suspension, engine and gearbox troubles suffered by the German marques over the past 25 years.

Fine If you don't mind getting under your car once a year to do rust treatment. I salute you .

I know this is an old thread. But those pics are unbelievable for any four year old car. let alone a Jaguar.
