Yet another new owner

Postby Bodmino » Sun Jan 13, 2019 7:01 am

After completing a 12 month build in Edinburgh I only discovered this site yesterday.

My car is with SSC at the moment for trimming. I decided to leave that part of the build to professionals.

For info I started a Faceache group ‘Suffolk SS100 Owners and builders group’. It’s a closed group, search for it on Faceache and send a join request.

Hello Bodmino and welcome to the wonderful, and sometimes weird world of SS100's. I saw your car when I was last at the works looking at the build progress on my new SS100 which will be my second. I am going down on Tuesday to see the further progress and have a chat with Mike about a few things I would like done.
If you have had time to read through this section of the forum you will have noticed that there are perhaps 3 main contributors those being Roy, Neil and myself Reg ( newly returned after a period with an E Type then a C Type ) I'm glad you have found us as we always like to hear from new owners and I for one like to hear from those who have been clever enough to build their own car. You are in a good place to point out any little hints for a happy ownership.
If you would like, I can take some pictures of your car and 'mail them to you if you send me your e-mail address. Having now found us, please do keep in touch via this forum as it will benefit all of us. Having said that, I will go onto "faceache" and request to join.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I was delighted to find this forum, and wish I’d been aware of it when I started construction. The only reason I started the Faceache page was because I couldn’t find a common platform where owners and builders could exchange information, ideas, pictures, etc. This forum may be the resource I was looking for.

During my several visits to SSC I asked about a common forum, but this one was never mentioned. I’ve read every thread over the last day.

I’ll post a few more pictures of my build over the next few days. I’ve enjoyed every moment of it, but was actually glad to see the car going to Woodbridge for final trimming. The reason I say this is that I can now get back to a normal life instead of spending all my free time in the man cave working all hours.

I work abroad 6 months+ per year (oil drilling), and my time at home is divided among maintaining a house in Edinburgh as well as one in Perthshire, flying my Autogyro, maintaining my Porsches & BMWs, as well as having a social life and being answerable to SWMBO! I’m usually delighted to go back to work for a rest.

I met another builder at the NEC Classic Car show in November. I’m sure he won’t mind me pointing out his blog on Pistonheads. His build is shaping up to be a masterpiece.

I’m looking forward to completion of my car. I’m in Baku at the moment, back in UK 19th January. I’m planning visiting SSC on 24th January. Ryanair Edinburgh to Stansted £6.99 each way. Down in the morning, back in the evening. Got to be the best value £13.98 ever!

Hello Bodmino

Welcome to the Replica forum. Reg Lowe and I got it up and running a few years ago when we were concerned that Replicas and specials were ignored in the JEC. It has not taken off in a big way but there are some interesting topics you might be interested to read about suspension, poly bushes, lighting, mixture and carbs and brake flexibles. I also recommend you look at the E type and XJ6 forum on this board.
I have had my car on the road for 6 years now and done about 32000 miles (all domestic) We use it for classic touring in all weathers so it is no longer concours but it is welcomed at many events.

There is quite an active Facebook group run by the JDC called JDC Historic Replica and Specials Register. I am not a JDC member but they allow non members to join this group and there is some interesting information on it. Reg has been in and out of the JDC but I have never bothered because they are not active in Lincolnshire.

Good luck with the car, when you first drive it watch out for brake pad knock off which will appear as if the brakes need bleeding. To avoid it ensure your front wheel bearings are on the tighter side of recommended tolerance.

I have applied to join your FB group and will send you a PM on FB once in.

Yours Aye
Neil

AJP,
Andy, Thank you for the link. I am pretty hopeless in getting onto various sites but once on I do like to try and contribute.
