DSC Fault & ABS Light

Help/Advice required Please. DSC Fault showing on dash + ABS Lamp lit. presume its a sensor but is there an easy/cheap way of checking which one !. Car runs fine and doesn't go into limp mode,Thanks, Gary

Sorry I'm late with a reply, but I'm a new boy!
On my S type we found the fault to be a poor electrical connection in the multiplug at the ABS Pump. This caused the intermittant display of the DSC light. The Main Dealer diagnosed of a faulty ABS pump but thankfully S & P Autos saved me wasted fortune..

A useful piece of info.

The thing to remember about diagnostics is that they point in the general direction of the fault. As you have found out, the diagnostic said there was a pump issue but the fault lay in the plug attached to it.

I have a golden rule when initially attempting to get electrical or electronic gear going again. I always go to the plug nearest the faulted unit before doing anything else. I`ve frequently found that just removing a plug from a socket and plugging back in again is enough to restore normal service. A classic example of that approach is with reversing sensors. . Putting the car in reverse with ignition on will activate the parking sensor system. By then putting your ear to each sensor in turn itemises which one is not ticking. Having found the culprit, working the correctors on the back of the unit is sometimes enough to get things going again.

As others have said, the appearance of those 2 lights can be caused by a number of things, often just wiring connections. However, if it is just an ABS sensor fault code (which can be as minor as mud on teh sensor) then most cheap diagnostics will show the ABS codes. Even the diagnostic package that I run on my Smartphone and cost £1.49 is Torque Pro and will identify ABS sensor fault codes.

a quick check,
look at the rear sensor rings. If one is shiny it could be rubbing against the sensor causing the sensor to fail.
I had this happen.

Hi I had a reoccurring DSC fault showing on my 2007 diesel which put the car in performance restricted mode. I took the car to Taylors at Dunmow independent Jaguar specialist. the technician noticed, after a code read, that the injector pressure and fuel pump pressure was low. He recommended replacing the fuel filter, which they did on the spot and that cured the DSC fault. Well done Taylors.

It seems there’s loads of different ways this DSC fault comes on.

Which lead me to find this broken ABS reader ring.
Any thoughts on how best to fix? It looks like the whole shaft might need to come off to change the ring?

Corrosion on the interface between the joint and the ring bursts the ring off the joint!

I once found replacement rings for the X-type but not for the S-type. I imagine the fix is probably a complete shaft replacement....that can be a nasty job because although the shafts are on splines where they enter the diff, they pick up in service over the miles and the years and can bind up solid when any attempt to extract a shaft is made. I watched the guys at Jagcare in Portsmouth go blue in the face with exasperation as they tried every trick in the book to get a shaft out. Slide hammers, lump hammers etc, etc. Eventually, the shaft came out but not before the guys virtually collapsed with fatigue!

My Indy replaced the Half Shaft, I was told it was the only way.

I have since found out it can be done in a workshop and reluctor rings are available, Half Shaft still has to be removed.

Sorry, forgot to say, this is on X350R. I found this thread through a google search, and assumed it was 350 (as that’s what I searched), then noticed it was S-Type after I clicked post. I assume the parts are the same?
