No sound from rear spekers

Hi,

I have a 2008 X-type which I bought a couple of months ago. It's fitted with the Alpine premium sound system, but I have discovered that the rear door speakers (both the mid-base and tweeters) are not working on both sides. I removed the door card on the right hand side, disconnected the speaker and connected it to my home hi-fi and the speaker works fine. The car has only had one previous owner to me, an older gentleman that has taken very good care of the car, so I can't imagine that he has blasted the stereo a lot. I have disconnected the connectors at the amplifier in the boot and reconnected them to rule out a loose connection. I have checked the sound settings to make sure they are all OK.

So this leaves me with the question, is it the amplifier in the boot that is faulty, or can the head unit be at fault? Has anyone come across this issue in the past? Any tip or advice would be very appreciative.

Is it the Premium sound system with the digital sound processing? Have you looked at the settings for that?

Yes it has the DSP system and I have checked the settings, as far as what I can find obvious. I wouldn't imagine that the DSP settings could be made in such a way that the rear speakers are turned off completely, or maybe I'm wrong?

I'm not sure they can be turned off entirely but you can certainly set the DSP to focus the sound on the driver which may feel that way?

My X type doesn't have premium sound, so I can't be sure of this for your system, but in my XK8 that does have premium sound, the rear speakers can be turned off by setting the Fade fully to the front speakers. The Fade setting is the one after the L-R Balance, Bass and Treble settings.

But maybe DSP negates all that!!

I have now resolved the issue with no sound from the rear speakers
After having tested the speakers in the doors and made sure the cabling was OK I came to the conclusion that it most likely must be the amplifier that was at fault. I managed to get a connector pin diagram from a very helpful person at Alpine UK (see attached file) and with the help of this I could then connect a speaker straight to the output pin's of the amplifier. Doing it this way I could get sound out of the amp for all the speaker outputs except for the rear doors, so this convinced me it must be the amp that is at fault.

So I purchased a secondhand unit part no 4x43-18c808-ca on eBay and after fitting this second hand amp I now have sound out of all 10 speakers
