Door mirror replacement

Postby steve_m » Wed Jun 27, 2018 10:19 am

Anybody had to replace the driver's door mirror on a 2004 Estate?
Mine got smashed this morning by some idiot in the middle of the road so I need to change the complete unit.

New ones from Jaguar are, to say the least, rather expensive! Be careful if getting a used one as there are a few variants!

If you have memory seats, then your mirror will have 3 wires, but mirrors with power foldback are different to those without - but both have 3 wires! Insist the seller knows what he's selling and it's what you want!

Non memory mirrors have 7 wires if powerfold, but 5 wires if not.

The mirrors are not difficult to fit once the door card is removed followed by the window surround trim panel. Then there's just the electrical connector and a single nut to remove.

All sorted now; closer inspection revealed that it was only the outer shell and glass that were destroyed.
Replacements obtained the next day from Autoreserve and a straightforward fit.
