Any Recommended Air Con Specialist in Chichester / Portsmouth

Hello again. Can anyone recommend a company local to Chichester/Portsmouth that is a reliable Air Con specialist for S types.

Try John Grieve at Jagcare opposite the Tesco`s entrance at Port Solent. He can handle most aspects of the S-type. Mention my name when you call them. It will open a door for you.

Alternatively, Halfords do a very efficient service. They got my air con working well on my X350. Not expensive either.

If you have followed "The engine decontamination thread" on the X350 engine section, you might also be pleased to learn that we have signed Jagcare up as Partners with EDT Automotive Ltd. John and Jayne Grieve now have a decontamination machine installed which is great news for those in the Portsmouth area. Go to the EDT web site for a look at what this service can do for your car.

Thanks for your reply. I was in Jagcare recently about another matter and asked about air-con repairs and was told that they no longer carried out air-con work. I will check out your other suggestions though.

The Air Con saga continues. I was impressed by the website of South CoastJags at Angmering in West Sussex and booked to have the car looked at despite being a fair distance from Chichester. On arrival I found all the doors locked and no-one on site. Quite a few S,X and XJ types outside. A phone call met with no response. A chap from an adjacent site said it wasn't unusual. So, a complete waste of my time and money! No longer on my list.

Garages seem to be giving up air-con work. Indeed I understand Halfords have dropped the service together with the bespoke Holts aerosol paint mixing facility. A disappointing turn of events on both counts.

I`m not familiar with South Coast Jags having not used their services.

I`d suggest a Google for a local traveling air-con specialist. There are a small number of these traveling guys who will often come to ones home or office and can provide a service onsite.

Seems to be getting a common practice nowadays and shows you just where to place your business

I've got the Owen Sedanca just completing bodyworks at a bodyshop in Liphook.

On the same estate is a TVR specialist who knows the proprietor of my bodyshop and agreed to replace the fuel pump for me and price it up ("it'd be only a coupla hours max"). Friday I trog down the A2/M25/A3 arrive at the agreed time 3 o'clock -- premises locked no 'phone answer.
Needless to say, reported same to bodyshop banning them from any work on my cars (I've got a Mk IX as my last restoration to do as well). Monday afternoon comes 'phone call, no apology no nuffink except "we've been down to see the car, what a mess it is, we'll have to take it in, dunno what we'll find when we strip it all down, bla-bla blather blather."

A lucky escape perhaps? I had considered using them for a service and diff oil change as they are nearer to me than Mike K's favourite in Croydon. However, when discussing prices I immediately crossed them off my list when I was informed "it will cost about xxx......unless of course you pay cash", (so no VAT). Obviously not a respectable place to do business!

Just to complete the air-con saga. I eventually went to my local (a Bosch specialist) garage - Rew Autos of Lavant West Sussex who did a brilliant job by replacing the condenser, regassing and all appears well. So, my hope of using a Jaguar Specialist (advertised copiously in the magazine but usually London and Northwards) came to naught. Air con came just in time for this hot weather!
