XKR won't run

Hi all I am new here, hope somebody can help, I have a 1999 XKR 4.0 ltr auto supercharged, it starts first time every time as normal but now it stalls straight away. There are no fault codes showing and it is seeing the key because if I wrap the key in tin foil it won't start at all. suggestions please

How does it stall? Instantly as in an electrical cut off or a sort of petter out rather like running out of fuel?

Throttle body throats and butterfly plates can get in a real mess due to gunging from crank case breather fumes. Thick black sludge can accumulate and close the air gap between the throttle plate and the throttle throat. Carburetter cleaner and link free cloth will allow that gunk to be removed and allow the correct idle speed air volume to pass between the plate and the throat. Wear examination gloves if cleaning the throttle out. It can be a flthy job.

Definitely sounds like fuel starvation rather than electrics, presume nothing a simple as fuel pump fuse? No that would be too easy....

If the fuel pumps (2 in the tank on an XKR) weren't working then I doubt the car would start in the first place. Easiest way to check for fuel pressure is on the fuel rail on the left (UK passenger) side where there is a schreader valve. Pressing the pin in the centre (whilst taking precautions against the possible squirt of fuel) will determine whether there is any pressure. Of course, if you have a pressure gauge then attach that which will allow you to monitor pressure as the car starts. That will be safer than potentially squirting fuel around!
