Blowing noise from engine area on cold startup XF 2009

Both cars did not have the same problem, the 1st car problem was far more interesting really, The second dealer I believe just did not know when he sold the car he was being guided by a mechanic and when the faults were found there was not enough equity in the car to make repairing a viable proposition. He did offer to repair the car, I did not feel comfortable with the content of that offer. I feel that we all face this type of jeopardy while buying in this in this market.

It would be nice to know what the problem was so that other prospective buyers of XFs could be better informed to either negotiate a price reduction or avoid the problem altogether.

Was your reluctance to accept his repair offer because it was only a stop-gap measure rather than complete replacement of some item that had failed? It would be very useful to know what was actually the situation. I agree that buying in this area of the market requires maximum attention before finally committing to a purchase, preferably by researching as much as possible about any model's common faults, and how much they cost to rectify. I wish I had done this before buying a diesel XJ some years ago!

Yes, I was doubtful if the repair would have been to a good standard and was there more to come? I do not feel very trusting of some 'Motor trade' people no matter how nice they appear I believe it is all down to the bottom line.
