Hello to everyone in the S Type Forum!

After loads of 'um'ing and 'ah'ing (and against Mike K's advice) I've succumbed to a 2004 2.7D Sport!

I bought it with a supposedly 'dodgy' propshaft - vibrating through the tunnel from 55mph up to 70mph (couldn't try it any faster as it got quite severe). The vendor had bought a second-hand propshaft but hadn't got round to fitting it! The wheels were all kerbed and one tyre has a split (more money deducted off asking price!).

As per the norm, after getting it back home (for me), off with the wheels to check condition of the brakes. Front ones badly scored and rear ones pitted and rusty. Strangely, upon stripping the calipers, the bottom sliding pin was seized on all four calipers!! Luckily i managed to free them off without snapping them. The rear nearside had hardly any meat left on the pads. I also found the rear tie rods (link rods?) were worse for wear, so they have been changed.

Also decided to put my personal touch to 'Black Beauty' and give it new alloys and tyres.

Just took it to work today, after doing all that work and guess what - all the way to 70mph and no vibrations! I haven't touched the propshaft!!

Welcome to the S type fold. Amazing what a bit of TLC can do. I'm sure you find it a comfortable fast cruiser, I toured around France for a couple of months each year for paste twelve /fourteen years without a single "hick up" so no reason you should not enjoy the same reliability.
As I'm sure you are aware there is an abundance of useful information on our database.

Fake? Oh my god, I've been had!!!

No, seriously the badges had nothing to do with it (honest!), but don't want to damage bodywork trying to remove them. Me and my good lady fell for the black with comfy hugging black leather interior!

Goes like stink - for a diesel. Will have to watch my right foot!!

Now to sort out the dodgy climate control

Don`t worry. Its probably only the exhaust on fire. Ignore the smoke. That`s normal.

Long may you enjoy your Jaguar sir. You have a very fine car.

My only comment would be that I personally would remove the fake "R" badges. My reasoning is that those who do not know what it means don't care and those who do know about jaguars will know it immediately it is not an STR by the exhaust pipes and trim. It is a very nice car as it is so why pretend it's something it isn't? It's a bit like people who put an "M" badge on a standard BMW.
