Jerky Gear Changes

Morning

I have a 2007 XJ-R which has started to change gear rather clunkily - it tends to be in the higher gears and there's quite a jolt between changes. It also seems to be changing up and down more than I've noticed in the past.

Any ideas or suggestions please??

your car is now ten years old, and unless you know it has had a gearbox fluid and filter change, then that would be the first thing you should consider , this is also probably the cheapest option for a ' fix '

worse case scenario could be the box, but i would bet a simple fluid change will eliminate your issues

I fully agree with BB.

Gearbox oil changes are recommended every sixty thousand miles on the ZF6HP26 gearbox. The genuine ZF kit is commonly available from the usual sources. Avoid the cheap Chinese copies of this kit. They have a reputation for warping sumps which then leak.

I had my 350R gearbox oil changed by Tom Lenthal about eighteen months ago. I recall the cost was around £340. Gearbox change quality improved after the service. This included a drive set up with lap top to ensure the gearbox was set to the correct operating parameters.

I hold the view that getting this service done professionally is money well spent.

While I'm here......my car doesn't have front fog lights yet some do, are they a different model/variant?

That would seem to be the case on later 358 models as seen in this image.

I shouldn`t worry about it, David. I have fog lamps on my early model and they are pretty useless.
