Replacing Soft top S3 OTS

Postby bigjoy2000 » Sat Jan 07, 2017 3:07 pm

I am new to the club and in the process of buying a 1973 E-Type V12 OTS which is currently undergoing an off-frame restauration.

My intention is to have the car restored to its original state to the greatest extent possible and one question coming up relates to the colour and fabric of the new soft top/hood. The original material would be, as I understand, Everflex Vinyl in black/grey. I am having difficulties to find an Everflex supplier via internet research. Robbins in the US and Martrim in the UK (apparently a vinyl manufacturer) are the ones showing up frequently.

I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a UK spare part supplier or manufacturer of high quality British Everflex (material or finished fabric for the hood) for redoing the soft top.

Any help or comments on the above sources are highly appreciated

Thank you & Happy New Year

I can't help directly with the fabric, but welcome.

Replies may be a little slow until more members get to grips with logging into the new forum.

Hi Juergen

I don't have the definitive answer for you but I think I can point you in the direction of somebody that will.

The link below will take you to BAS who are a highly respected car trim suppliers. They supplied the complete trim kit for my Series 1 3.8 FHC restoration in all the correct materials as far as is practicable. They are also suppliers of cabriolet hoods for just about every type of car so I would suggest that if they can't answer your questions then its likely that nobody can.

They are very friendly and approachable.

You will probably find that most cars have had their hoods replaced with mohair items. Whilst not strictly original they are more durable and look a whole lot better.

Regards and good Luck
