£18,500 for mine; as it is Christmas I'll let it go for £16k to a Club member.

They reckon mines worth £50,400 (yes, seriously) but of course I'd never let it go for that!

Interesting.......I tried it a second time just now (to show the wife what a shrewd investment I'd made) and the figure now appears as £12,700! :( Now, who is it who says "The value of your investment can fall as well as plummet?!"

My previous 92 XJS 4.0 comes out at £24300 :D I haven't dared to enter my current variant's details as the shock of how much it's worth would likely see my wife booking a private viewing at Harrods.

Happy days Nick

My '92 V12 comes out at just £6200, but then it's guessed I've done 302,000 miles, which ain't quite the case!

Not that I really care on one level, but there is an idea of fiscal responsibility that comes into my mind in regards to how much of a bad idea it is to put money into my high mileage early facelift.

In terms of coupés produced, TWR aside, the 4.0 is the least. I know they generally get a lot of praise on their design and are wanted "more generally" by those who aren't after originality.

Of the coupés, I'd say it is perhaps the 2nd most desirable? Is that a fair assessment, or have I got confirmation bias?

I watched (online) 2 XJ-S V12s that SWVA were selling today. The clearly treasured car with 46K miles made over £7K and the 110K miler only made £2.5K despite having a new exhaust and rear brakes. I was almost tempted to bid unseen as it seemed too cheap unless it had been misdescribed. But it is out of season. Bet the first car reappears for £15K if a dealer bought it.

How do I get an agreed car valuation for insurance through the club?

It used to be send off a few photos and a handful of fivers towards the office cake fund but I can't seem to find the procedure on the new site.

EDit: To answer my own question, under the insurance tab is :
"Also from our HQ in Bristol we can give you an official valuation for insurance purposes. Our valuations are accepted by all leading insurance brokers and Companies.

Simply call 0117 969 8186 for details"

OK I can do that, but why not just write on the page what needs to be sent and where? Surely that's the whole point of a website?

A little concerning :| oh well ... I try not to think of my car having monetary value because it's not a great thing to keep thinking about ...

Hagerty puts my XJS at £13,000. But that's 'excellent' condition.
It's a 1979 5.3 with 24,000 miles on the clock.
It has not been out of the garage in 26 years and is in the middle of a stalled make over.
So it won't be in excellent condition until it gets finished.

Whilst the last couple of years has seen a lot of car press hype over XJS prices, I am still to see any real evidence of it personally.

That aside, £13k for a pre-HE with low mileage is mad. That really should be heading towards £30k in my humble opinion...especially when you compare that to prices for late series 3 bloated e-type FHC (disclaimer - series 3 roadsters are my absolute favourite, so it pains me to ever criticise e-types).

Errm - £16K agreed valuation for mine... (£7,186 with https://cazana.com, £0 with WeBuyanyCar - prev £240 5 years ago - lol!). Obviously not the same as what one might get on flea-bay. It still owes me significant money and it ain't for sale! If you track HE V12 Coupes on ebay I challenge anyone to find a really good clean one with less than 80K miles that does not require any work (for now :) ) for less than £6K. You could find them for £3K less than 8 years ago. Also - pre-facelift V12 convertibles seem to picking up in value. Facelift convertibles (never cheap) also continue to rise in value.

Edit: £14K agreed valuation last year 2015/16, £16K this year 2016/17. Sadly the amount of time, resource and hard cash commited is not reflected in the £2K increase!

Surely those gold wheels push it into the £20k+ bracket? Sorry...couldn't help myself... :P
