windscreen
Hi My 2003 XJ6 SEC has a cracked windscreen. It would appear after a lot of searching my front screen which is non heated but with a wiper park heater element and top tint is no longer available. I can have a plain screen fitted but would have liked to retain the original specifications. Do anyone know of a source of screens for the earlier x350s like mine before I give in. Thanks John.
Re: windscreen
Do you have a part number, John? Everything revolves around part numbers. With that to hand you could start an internet search by typing that number into your internet browser. It is amazing what materialises when you delve deeper.
It might be worth giving Eurojag a call. They might be able to salvage one from one of their breakers.
Otherwise, a few calls to the many windscreen replacement companies might source the right spec unit. Someone is bound to have one on the shelf. It is just a question of finding that source.

Re: windscreen
Thanks your reply Mike I have been searching for a while now without success. I agree there will be one somewhere I just running out of enthusiasm. I haven't got a part numbers Jaguar go of reg no and car serial numbers and kept sending me thewrong screens before finally getting round to telling me mine was obsolete. Have only managed to find a heated one on salvaged sites. Cheers John
Re: windscreen
Mike turns out my car had wrong screen fitted years back and should have been heated screen. They fitted heated screen saying all connections in place. Only thing which no one can tell is my car not fitted with dual screen buttons however this morning car covered in heavy frost. Went out started car rear screen comes on automatically, nothing happened to front screeen till I pressed demist/ defrost switch and turned the fan down to minimum within a minute or so the front screen fully defrosted which was definitely from the elements in the screen. Could it be some early cars where fitted with dual front switch the logo on the switch does indicate and electric function as is same as rear one ?? Interesting what cheers John.
Re: windscreen
Mike only concern here is in the times you might forget to turn off the demist button does it mean the elements will stay on or is there a timer fitted in the system that auto switched them off ??
Re: windscreen
Just done the same here in frosty Surrey, where this morning deep ice covered the car.
I`ve not worked out quite how these switches work, but today, the car just defrosted automatically without me touching any of the switches. Very handy indeed. I also love the heated front seats which help stop cold bum syndrome.
The precise details of system operation will be covered in the owners handbook. It is all there if any of us can be bothered to open the good book! I prefer to button punch and see what happens!! The systems do seem to time out in service but also when you switch off the car. Manual switch on again for most services is required. Auto defrost who restart if temperatures are low enough to trigger the auto system.
These cars really are a master piece of engineering. To quote Clarkson "No car on this Earth does everything so well as a Jaguar XJ"....well he didn`t quite say that, he said XJR and he is certainly right about that.
