Rear Quarter Light

Postby jeff1954 » Sun Oct 23, 2016 4:39 pm

The black strip that separates the rear quarter light from the window glass has started to bubble on the bottom edge. Can this be replaced, if so what sort of a job is it to do.

It can be replaced but it is a bit of a job. As I recall, the glass and rubber together with the horizontal trim has to come off.

It is possible to treat the corrosion by cleaning up with abrasives, phosphoric rust treater, then priming and repainting in gloss black That is ok if you have paint experience.

An alternative option is to do as above less the top coats of paint. Van sign writing vinyl offers a quick stick on finish option.

Then you have the stick on over-cover chrome plastic trims sold by Adamesh and other sellers. Again you need to treat the corrosion and prime before fitting the covers.

Don`t we all just love the steel bits on our cars as they age?!

Thanks for that Mike sorry about the delay. Which rust treatment would you recommend.
