Hello Fellow Owners
I have a rather nice 1995 X300, with only one small rusty area. The lower rear edge of the N/S Front wing. The rust is below the stick-on molded body extras, in line with the top of the front mud-flap. I don't seem able to find a small repair panel from any after-market supplier so presumably they don't exist. I can easily manage to cut-out the bad bit and shape and weld a new piece of metal in, and I'm probably best to do this in situ' so I get the lines right. Or, how easy is it to get the wing off? Has anyone successfully repaired this area, wing on or off? An idea where the bolts are to remove the wing would be good as well, this might give me an option to remove and repair. I also have no-problems with structural bonding in case the lower part of the wing is attached like that, I bonded the rear-arch successfully last year.

Re: Front Wing Question
if you can see rust outside it will be far worse on the inside!!
to get the wing off, remove front bumper, often the bolts will be seized in the mountings, 2 x 19mm bolts and wiring harness, remove the inner wing liner assorted seized torx, you then have three 10mm, bolts inside the wing/door cavity two wing to A post and one wing bottom to sill, another rust trap, you have the run of 10mm bolts along the wing top, easy, and then 2/3 10 mm bolts by the headlights, these often corrode in and will shear
the wing will lift away to reveal the horrors hidden within!!
if all goes well, allow an hour, if not allow weeks!!
good luck

Re: Front Wing Question
Rob,
Surely the bolt sizes you refer to are the spanner/socket sizes? M6 = 10mm AF, M12 = 19mm AF.
I can't imagine wings being held on by M10 bolts!

Re: Front Wing Question
There is no corrosion protection on the back on these wings, so they are very prone to rot. Only a thin layer of primer.
If you do remove and repair it, I would put a thick coat of wax on the underside before refitting.
New wings are around £380+vat, if needs be.

Thank you all very much. Wing will be removed in due course.
