Hi.
I need to take of my cloth trim that goes above and around the wood trim on the roof to be
recovered. I have had a look and can't work out how it comes off. I don't want to damage it.
Any pointers to assist me.
Cheers Ricky

Hi, are you talking about the headlining? I have a Mk2 and the arrangements may be similar. If so then you need to remove all the wood trim first. Screws that hold this in place can either be seen from the inside or have to be accessed under the door seals that go around the door frame. The only difficult bits I found were the areas around the screens, front and back, but fortunately I was taking them out at the time so access became easier. You will need to take off the sun visors and then you will find the headling stapled to the car and it is held in place across the roof by wire rods which can be sprung free at the ends.
Keep the wire rods in the same location as they are different.
Hope that helps.

Re: S type cloth trim removal
Hi PPV.
mine is slightly different from the mk2. I have removed all the wood trim a while ago as mine had a full bare metal respray. it has been completely rewired. so before I start putting back the interior my head lining needs replacing as it is the wrong colour. Hence asking about the fabric trim which needs to be recovered. I'm going to tackle it now so I'll let you know how I get on. The head lining for the S type is glued on as opposed two the rails on the MK2.

All sorted. not an easy job. you have to peel back the fabric and unscrew 4 self tapping screws
and all comes away. no it don't. I had to use a dremmel to grind off the screw heads and drill out the remainder. but its done now.

Re: S type cloth trim removal
Hi there,
I'm probably going to have to do something similar on my 1965 S type. Whereabouts were the self tappers? Also, have you managed to remove the rear parcel shelf? I would like to be able to recover this. I haven't looked too closely yet, but any pointers will be gratefully accepted!
Mine is going in for a re-spray November time, and I plan to strip out as much as I can first, including the front & rear screen. Will you be removing the side window frames?
Richard

Re: S type cloth trim removal
Hi Richard.
To remove the trim around the roof just peel back the old fabric and you will see 4 slot head
screws. they could be covered in glue and be rusted. So removing them you could end up
damaging the heads. hence the dremmel, the rear trim that runs across the back window was
easier. to remove the rear parcel shelf take the back seat out and the shelf will pull out
Anything else just ask. Just let you know my project has cost mw over 20K. and it still not
finished.
