I intend to renew both rear discs and pads on my 2006 X150.
The service manual advises to undo tension in the park brake cable by means of the Jaguar diagnostic tools, prior to any work being carried out on the rear brakes. Since I don't have access to such equipment, can anyone tell me whether disconecting the battery is an option to illiminate any residual tension in the park brake system, or is there any need to do anything.

Re: Rear brake renewal
Disconnecting the battery doesn't work. Replacing discs and pads means that all the system's reference points have to be reset so the handbrake mechanism doesn't either drag permanently or moves insufficiently to hold the car on a slope. However, all hope for DIY replacement is not lost. Diagnostic devices which also possess the ability to place the handbrake in service mode and then reset it, can be purchased for around £100. For example, I use one supplied by Foxwell. Under some circumstances, it may be possible to 'fool' the system in order to carry out some tasks but quite frankly, it's easier and safer to buy the right tool for the job. After all, no one would work on a car armed solely with a set of pliers. These days, diagnostic units are as essential as spanners! Mike.

Thanks Mike. I have taken your advise and currently deciding which budget scanner will give me the most system benefit.
