LHD to RHD

Postby silverfox » Wed Jun 29, 2016 7:25 pm

Hi ,

Has anyone purchased a dry state car and had it converted over here ? ,

is the cost 10k , 15k , 20k ?

was it worth doing it ?

thinking of a V12 spec

what were the pitfalls ?

all input welcome

Many thanks Russ

Hi Silverfox,
If most of your driving is going to be in the UK, then definitely change it over to RHD. From a safety point of view and it will be cheaper on insurance to have it RHD
All E-type chassis were made to be built either RHD or LHD on the production line, so most of the cost is labour
Major items you will need to replace are:-
1 Steering Rack, (existing cannot be re-handed)
2 Wiring Harness. ( it is possible to modify, but any good restorer would change it for fire safety).
3 Instrument panel housings/ Glove box
4 Front headlights

Major items to change over,
Steering wheel and steering column
Brake pedal box and brake piping
Windscreen wipers and linkages to ensure drivers side is fully swept.

You should get all this done for under 10k
