XKR 18" Tyres

Postby MarkP » Sat Apr 23, 2016 10:17 am

What are the latest thoughts on the 18" tyres available? Are the Pirelli tyres OK as other tyres I have found are not ZR as specified and/or 96 load rating.

Hello Mark,
Try a search for Dunlop Sport Max on this forum, as I certainly remember reading a forum "chat" where some contributors thought the Dunlop was better than the Pirelli.

I personally have only ever used the Pirellis and my only criticism is that when pressing on, the front tyres are not big enough to stop the car from "ploughing on" when getting enthusiastic on tight corners.

Also having gotten close to maxing the car I would definitely stick to ZR rated tyres as I do not doubt the car is quite capable of its rated 155 mph max.

Apparently we have some sort of "secret" deal with Vredestein tyres, it seems to be very, very secret.. .have a look at the tyre thread on the "club comment" then "general comment" section here on the BB.

Hello Mark,
Try a search for Dunlop Sport Max on this forum, as I certainly remember reading a forum "chat" where some contributors thought the Dunlop was better than the Pirelli.
If you want to try Dunlop my recommendation is for the Sport Maxx RT version rather than just Sport Maxx. These are ZR speed and, at least for 255/40x19 size, extra load rated (100Y) and they are quieter than PZeros. I've had them on my XJ8 for a while now and they are brilliant in both wet and dry conditions.

Thank you all, I do remember Vredestein at a National event but will look on the threads mentioned and compare them to the Dunlops.

Hi
I can confirm the comment on Dunlop. I fitted a set of Dunlop Sport Max to the rear of my XK8. Handling wet and dry was fine and there was an immediate noticeable reduction in road noise.
