Hi
After having a 2.0 V6 petrol I recently bought a 2.0 diesel and have heard bad stories about Diesel Particulate Filters and EGR valves.
Is it better to blank the EGR valve off and if so how do you do it?
Is there any benefit from putting additive in the fuel?
Can anything be done to the DPF?
The car is running fine by the way.

Bellajag, since car is running fine as you say, then I would not blank off anything. Even if it was not running good I believe the best thing for it is to replace the fuel filter and/or add to the fuel tank 'complete system clean-up' available at Halfords.( doing it only as prescribed )
Alternatively, as in running ok, and what I do myself is to add to a full tank at every other fill-up another additive called 'Diesel Magic' also available at halfords. I find that it is brilliant and you will know a dramatic improvement within the first 10 miles you have it.
From there on a good run at least once a week if you dont do much mileage.
That is my experience .

Re: DPF EGR confusion
Good morning
Regarding the egr valve I did blank the egr valve off on my 2.0 diesel for a period of 18 months or so. There was a very slight improvement in fuel economy and the egr valve stayed much cleaner than was previously the case. However, the engine management light would very occasionally be triggered with an egr fault code and would have to be extinguished, in my case by use of a scanner.
I ultimately removed the blanking plate and returned the car back to 'normal' and instead chose to remove the egr valve once a year and give it a thorough clean together with replacing the hose between the egr valve and the intercooler. I also removed the inlet manifold and cleaned that on one occasion too. My car was used regularly incuding a high daily mileage and this also helps keep things sweet on the diesel models.
My current 2.2 diesel is currently under an extended Jaguar service and warranty plan so I 'leave well alone' but it has already had a new egr valve!
Regarding the dpf, I believe these are examined as part of the mot and should they not be present the vehicle will fail if it was originally built with one. I believe that they do not cause too much trouble if the vehicle is used regularly with a good long run so that the filter can regenerate. I have no personal experience of these so will let others comment further!
Hope this helps, Steve

Thank you for the advice. it is very much appreciated. I did wonder about additives Thomas so I will try what you suggest. Good advice about mot Steve.

Re: DPF EGR confusion
Diesel Magic added to tank yesterday so we'll see how it goes.

I don't know if you have found out yet, but the 2.0 litre doesn't have a DPF.
Re: DPF EGR confusion
Ah trooper thanks very much for that.
One less thing to bother about.
