Hello all,
my newly acquired X Type has a defective speedometer. All other instruments work and the ABS light is not lit so it would seem thw wheel sensors are OK? I can't seem to identify a specific fuse for that.
Any suggestions welcome.

sadly not, but I have a dash pack here if you want to swap one over as a trial to see if the speedo is at fault or something else, cheap to!!

don't forget that the dash pack on the X needs to be paired to the car using JLR SSD software to function correctly

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
Hello Rob,
thanks for the input.
We have a Land Rover garage customer and I thought I would get him to do a scan initially to see if I can pinpoint the area of the fault.
What price did you have in mind for the cluster?
Many thanks,
Alec

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
Hello Rob,
thank you, that unit is suitable for a 2.5 Estate?
I note from your website that you are breaking a 2.5 car, what do you want for the coolant reservoir assuming it is sound, mine seems to have a small crack so is losing some small amount of coolant.

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
Hello all,
an update but no real progress.
This is what I did after fitting a second hand instrument cluster using the Jaguarr SDD software.
Perhaps I did this in the wrong order but I'm new to this system and the car.
After all the usual data acquisition I entered 'Service Functions' then set the 'Security immobilisation set up' to run. This went through it's routine but in the end it came up with completed but unable to clear diagnostic trouble codes 0x1582 and 0x9582. It said to use the diagnostic trouble code monitor to view stored diagnostic trouble codes. (I haven't yet done this)
I left that and went to 'Programme new transponders', and to be frank I did not know exactly what this step does. As it comes before the Security immobilisation set up perhaps this step is the one I should have run first. I set this to run but when I reached the step that said this will erase all key fobs, I decided caution was in order and aborted the procedure in case I ended up with an immobile vehicle. The other part of this routine says you must have two keys minimum and I have only one.
Any comments or hints as to where to go now;, my other option is to send the instrument cluster for repair assuming it doesn't lose it's security settings?

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
Hello all,
I sent the instrument cluster to a company I found on the internet (Cartronix) at midday on Wednesday and received it back this morning. Exceptional service and I now have an operating speedometer.
While the cluster was away I did a plug change and all plugs had large to very large gaps, anyway new plugs and a few other bits and pieces. Our local Jaguar dealer (Hatfields, Shrewsbury) had to order most of what I wanted. Is this typical of dealers? They did have them within 24 hours so no real hardship, perhaps the X Type is a bit old now for them to have a large spares holding?

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
most dealers now work "just in time" and carry very little stock, most stock is on trucks on the motorways over night!!
glad the unit is working again

Hello Rob,
I was assuming as the parts I wanted were parts that the dealer would use himself during services that they would have a stockholding?

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
you would be surprised just how little is now held at the dealers, even my local big dealer in Edinburgh has to order in for me, bear in mind if a car is booked in for service, the dealer knows its coming and will order the essentials , filters, plugs, belts and other customer specified parts, up front, most now do not cater for folk like us "chance sales off the street"

Re: Inoperative speedometer.
Hello Rob,
I suppose that makes sense to them except that I have to travel 20 miles to the nearest dealer.
However I think that may alter the way I shop and see if I can get parts from the internet?

Alec
contact the dealer, get the part number and price
then surf the internet for ' genuine ' parts, or at worst OEM , don't buy anything aftermarket for the most part
then you could save money , however, the net isn't always the cheapest, or best customer service,
and a nice drive to your local dealership can always be treated as a nice outing in the Jag
