Exhaust Flexi Pipe

Postby BADPower » Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:36 pm

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well.

I just wanted to check if anyone else has experienced problems with the flexi pipe on the exhaust of their Jaguar XF?

I've been doing some research and it would seem this is a common problem yet Jaguar say it isn't a warranty issue?

Any thoughts, experience or recommendations please?

Kind regards,

Colin

Hi Colin, Is it the flexi pipe to the Cat, if so then yes my local independent has repaired several of them, I'll try to find out what this involves, he did say its a common problem.

Well I guess after 6 weeks Colin is not really interested in a fix for his Exhaust.
After my last post, I called my friendly independent (Prestige Jaguar of Paisley) to ask for some more details of how they repair this problem, so for those XF Owners that can be bothered to save themselves £700.00 + of what the main dealer will charge, here you go...
My indy has now contracted this work out to a local Engineering workshop, they have made up a jig for the Flexi Joint and a stainless steel ring is then welded to the damaged area, he said a wire gauze has to be removed first, that might mean something to those that have seen the joint, anyway the price for the repair is £120.00.

Not that I need it at the moment but that is really useful info to know Doug - and well worth taking advantage of when the time comes..I hope more people read it and store up the information.

Maybe Hugh might consider a brief paragraph about it in the magazine pages?

Cheers for replying Ray. I'll probably be seeing Hugh at some point over the next few weeks, so I will mention this to him.

Hi all who may have the answer,
I have a 2008 xf 2.7 diesel, which has started to have exhaust fumes in the cabin especially on start up and traffic tick over,
I have read and seen info about several different repairs but have been left confused which way to go,can you shed some info ,I am based in West Sussex so if it's the cut and shut repair are there any recommendations for a local garage .
Thanks in advance
Charles

Jagcare at Port Solent just off the M27 in Portsmouth may be able to help you. John Grieve is the MD anhas years of repairing Jaguars, if you don`t mind a trip over the border into Hampshire.

Mention you are a JEC member.

Hi Charles,

This thread has gone quiet over the years so I can only assume exhaust fumes are not that common. However it will undoubtedly happen to another member at some point so please do let us know how you get on at Jagcare and I will report your findings in the magazine for the benefit of all :)

it is a common problem, my 2008 XJ had them done, I used the genuine Jaguar approved repair kit at £300 and got XJK to install them, one side is easy, one side more difficult so I am told, but at least we have a fume free cabin and eyes that do not water any longer, yes mine was THAT bad

North East jaguar Spares do a repair kit that they have developed at about £160 for the two, then you have to find some one who is willing to install them

Update,
Did some work on this topic and mat @spires comes up a lot,I telephoned him and he explained the quite common fault with this flexi pipe.i arranged to go to his workshop on Saturday pm ,which was a fair drive from Sussex,on arrival he instantly made a coffee and we talked generally about cars etc, he does this repair of taking of the cats cutting away the flexi bit and replacing with a new part he has developed.all very straight forward and very efficient .he told me this replacement part he developed has sold almost two hundred sets ,with no come backs, so all seems good,
I think if you get this problem he is well worth a call and I found him a very straight and pleasant man to talk and deal with.

That's great news. I have had many dealings with Matt and Dave at Spires in years past and they have always been at the forefront of tuning and suspension. I knew they developed exhaust systems but hadn't realised they also carried out work such as this so we learn everyday.
Interestingly, I am currently writing up an article regarding a suspension set up developed by Matt for the XF so it is timely that Spires have been brought to member's attention :D

Also I have to ask - was the cost of the 'fix' reasonable :?:
