Hi All
This is my first posting, and yes, I'm afraid I'm straight in with a problem. It think this is a good thing, for although I have attended the Eastern Rally and had 6 months trouble free motoring nothing has gone wrong (until now).
I have the 2.2d Estate Manual, 2007 model.
When the car is first started (on the button everytime) on a cold day it starts fine. Yes, I wait until the glow plugs are warmed everytime.
However, as soon as the throttle is push and 1.5-1.6 (000) revs is reached, the coiled spring light flashes and the engine dies. Completely. It will not start for around 10 seconds, but then it starts straight away, first time, on the button. Then dies again as soon as the throttle is pressed. It will idle with no problem.
This goes on for around four or five minutes (just long enough for the engine to warm a little) and then there is absolutely no problem for the rest of the day, no matter how long I leave the car, it seems.
It had its EGR valve replaced 18 months ago and has only done 7,000 miles since. Also this only happens when the car is cold, so I don't think its this.
Also, as it only happens when cold, I don't think it is the fuel filter or fuel supply. As I say, once warm the car has no problems at all.
So, I think it is something to do with the choke. I had an old Mark 1 Cavalier that had the same problem and the only way round it was to install a manual choke. But that was 20 years ago, with dinosaur equipment that even I could have a go at! No any more though.
I am tempted to take it to my local garage (who are a Ford dealer) and see if they can read the fault codes (if there are any??!!??).
I have heard of similar problems and wonder if any one has an answer which might save me a few bob in these austere times?
Any help gratefully received.
Kind regards
Isaac

Best to take to a suitably qualified garage with the right diagnostic kit. Once you know the problem part, the fix can often be straight forward.
