New price???

Postby ArtyH » Sat Jul 28, 2007 12:58 pm

Hello, I have a Celebration coupe, it is a 1996 model. with 39K miles on the clock, it is in Ice blue. I went to my first show with it on Sunday 1st July 2007 and met some really great people. Look forward to seeing them again at future shows.
I bought it last year in a local auction and love it to bits. Just had to sort the air con which was a new receiver dryer and a new valve, all in all another £100 or so, as I fitted them myself.
Could anyone tell me how much my car would have been when it was new?
Thank you. :D

New price???

Others on here will know better then I, but there may have been optional extras which could have increased the basic price. The Celebration may have had some of these as standard, but from a 1995 list, options for the 4.0 included:-
Cruise control, full size spare wheel, auto transmission, chrome 5-spoke wheels, diamond-turned 20 spoke wheels, front fog lamps, headlamp power wash, twin painted coachlines, CD autochanger, inlayed burr walnut veneer, electric lumbar support for front seats, heated front seats, cream leather trim, leather seat facings, leather trimmed console, memory for drivers seat, trip computer and wooden gear knob.

(I always imagine someone going to the dealer and saying 'Ive won the lottery, I'll have the lot!)

ArtyH and Pop
Celebration only had a few goodies as standard..........unfortunately :(

95/96 Celebration 4.0 coupe

Standard Fit (not including the obvious)
Auto 4 speed and Sport mode
Cruise
7" X 16" Diamond turned Alloys
Space Saver Spare Wheel
Twin painted Coachlines
Electrically Adjustable Front seats
Leather trimmed console and door grabs
Wooden Gear Knob

Not forgetting your "distinctive embossed" Jaguar Leaper front seat headrests.. :P

Options
5 Speed Manual Transmission (no cost option)
Chrome Wheels
Full Size Spare
Front Fogs
Cellphone
CD Changer (X6)
Cream colour Trim (??)
Headlamp Power Wash
Leather and fabric seat facings (no cost option)
Heated front seats
Heated with electric lumbar support
Heated with lumbar support and memory
Trip Computer

I don't know how they got away with charging extra for a cream interior......
My own car has few of these options, full size spare  , CD Changer and Cream Trim ( :D ).
Having said that I think the only ones I would like are headlamp power wash and memory seats (for which you ALSO have to pay for lumbar support and heating........)

I think Pop is quite right, if you were to specify the whole shooting match I'm sure it would have bumped up the base price considerably. I'm afraid I haven't got an options price list to confirm this, tho pjts1 or Norman may have one.

BTW I seem to remember that at the original release of the XJ-S it was a NO OPTIONS car - Everything came as standard. How times changed!

Best Wishes

DH Dove

PS Didn't realise till tonight that door mirrors are heated according to the brochure........are they?????

The full list of options could get quite expensive even for a Celebration which was well equipped from the start. Looking at DH's list:

5 Speed Manual Transmission (no cost option)
Chrome Wheels £750
Full Size Spare £100
Front Fogs £170
Cellphone £100
CD Changer (X6) £500
Cream colour Trim (??) £665
Headlamp Power Wash £380
Leather and fabric seat facings (no cost option)
Heated front seats £595
Heated with electric lumbar support £655
Heated with lumbar support and memory £1045
Trip Computer £430

And if you had a Coupe & wanted "Touring" Suspension, or had a Convertible & wanted "Sports" Suspension, then that was another £210.

Now if you started specifying the lifestyle options as well for the car, including roof rack, boot rack, headlamp beam converters, snow chains, touring kit, safety triangle, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, child seat, mudflaps, boot mat, rubber mats, overcarpets, tow bar, locking wheel nuts and secuirty window etching.. then it really would start to get expensive!

So when one says "Fully Loaded", does it apply to the car or the person buying it.....?

Thanks for the input guys, thats more like it, I just bought a jaguar 6X CD player from my local dealer ( well last year ) which had been in the stores for several years. I told the salesman I was going to buy an ALPINE one which at the time was £99.99, I was told to wait a moment, he came back and offered it to me for the same price. Did I take it???? Bet your bottom dollar I did, and got the receipt as proof. My car has most of the extras above, except for the power headlamp washers and the heated seats, so I must be quite lucky. :D
