HI AGS,
41K miles is naff all, about the same as mine. The tyre wear looks pretty standard to me and like wise I'm working myself into a frenzee to shell out for two new ones having the same wear patterns. The answer is to only drive on straight roads
Interestingly, those tyres don't appear to be original fit !
Nobody has mentioned disc run out . I wonder if the car has had a hard life needing new discs .
Sloppy workmanship of fitting new discs can have some appalling results. The ideal run out is Zero but the book says Max 40 microns or 0.017 thou.
We produced a video demonstrating the effects of bad fitment - it is very difficult to teach an old dogs new tricks
Good hunting

Re: Binding pad on STR?
Quick update, new Dunlop tyres fitted and drives like a different car. No more tram-lining and wandering. New discs next...

Re: Binding pad on STR?
I had the alignment checked and adjusted on Saturday morning (caster and toe adjusted on front and toe on back).
I then took it over to my brother-in-laws work where I got the use of a 2 post ramp to change the front discs and pads. I have to say compared to our Mitsubishi it is a joy to work on. The calliper bolts all came out easily with minimal pressure on a 600mm breaker bar (18mm socket) and the hub surface was in good condition so only needed a bit of cleaning up. I'd bought some new calliper bolts from SNG Barratt in case of any disasters getting them out but ended up not using them (will do next time I think). I got the discs on eBay from Kent Jaguar for £99 delivered and they are manufactured in the UK (or to UK specification, not sure which!). I torqued the calliper bolts back up to 75lb/ft as I'd read this is more than adequate (official figure is much higher I think). Fitted new Mintex MDB2220 pads and put wheels back torqued up to 128Nm.
I've not done any heavy braking yet as I'm trying to bed them in gently but so far no sign of any wobble/shudder now and no droning from NS. Fingers crossed.
Cheers, Andrew

Re: Binding pad on STR?
Please use manufacturers figures for these critically bolted parts. That might avoid any bad issues later. My best advice.
Glad this issue now seems better for you. Caster angles can wander off as the front lower bushes start to settle with age. My on going maintenance post describes what I found on an early model in that respect. Keep a good eye out for splitting of front bushes as the car accumulates mileage. Whether this problem also affects 2002.5> cars is not known to me although general bush replacement on the later design is a fairly common occurrence. Have to say I no longer have an original lower front bush set on my early car because of the splitting issues and have replaced them with much stiffer competition grade Powerflex Black Series replacement parts. Drives very sure footedly now as I experienced this afternoon on a 130 mile motorway drive.
After hard brake use and if coming to a stop, avoid keeping your foot on the brake pedal if you, for instance, sit at a red traffic light. Prolonged stationary pad contact with hot discs will cause the disc to cool unevenly and lead to disc warp and a pulsing pedal under braking loads. taking the car out of D in such an instance allows you to to relax foot brake hydraulic pressure and keep the pads away from a localised area of the disc.
