As always, loads of different tool kits and parts now available relatively cheaply on internet sites.

We`ve never had it so good. If I have a job to do, I often just buy the tooling rather than pay a third party to do the work. I let it be known locally I hold various tools and sooner or later someone asks me to repair something for them. A couple of jobs like that and invariably the tool gets paid for. My bench press is the one exception. Quite a few jobs needed to pay for that!

As regards alternator overhaul, a local old school auto electrician is often worth his weight in gold. I have a chap down here who has never failed to get a starter motor or alternator going again for me. Forty or fifty quid usually sees a tired unit restored to working condition. The fellow usually only takes a morning to get things fixed up and thats good enough for me and my customers. Bushes, bearings, slip rings and diode packs....no problem.
