Hi Tony

We are still planning on coming, but we do not know whether it will be in the Hire car or the XJS.

Over a week ago we had a day off work, had a trip to Weston super mare, in the XJS. On our return to the car, the Key Fob would not disharm the car, although I could get in the car with the key. The key fob would not allow me to turn the engine over. Two and half hours later with an
AA patrol, he could not disharm the alarm. The yellow flatbed lorry brought us home at midnight,
Spare key fob from home worked fine, AA Patrol man insisted on delivering car on drive, on doing so snapped track rod. I guess two tonnes of car hanging on straps would not the steering rod any good. Hence the AA admitted full liability, inspector came out on Thursday and agreed with my thought that a new steering rack is in order. So can only hope that the works will be carried out
this week, at my local jaguar dealership, otherwise it will be a trip in the 'high powered' Corsa Hire
car!!

See you all Saturday

Hi Tony,
Just confirming that we are still AOK for the visit and will be looking to get to the site for 10:00.

While I have been to the museum before, could you just confirm the access for us?. Is it in a pedestrianized area?.

Cheers,
Keith with co-pilot Katie

Keith and Katie

Thanks for that.
Please DO NOT arrive before 10.00 AM ( instruction from the Museum), I would suggest 10.15 earliest.

Re access, it is in Millenium Square which I guess is pedestrianised when not used for car displays. Please see directions and map on page 2 of this thread.
See you Saturday.

Hi All

Just got back after what I thought was a very enjoyable and successful day at the Coventry Transport Museum. I thought the Museum was great with some unique exhibits, the Thrust 700mph simulator was brill (don't fancy that handling tho!), the guided tour excellent and the weather stayed fair, if dull and a bit cool.
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did?
Thanks to you all for supporting this event, shame there weren't more of us but hey, it's their loss! (Not you Keith........ )

Great to see old friends and some new ones, I'll pass on all your kind thoughts to Libby, she was so upset she couldn't go......... :(

I talked to a couple of you about fuel economy and gearbox modes on the 350.
I went up and back same route, fosse way 85 miles each way.
On the way up I used "comfort" mode ( no first gear, change up as soon as possible, rarely much more than 1500 rpm) tootled at 50-60 and averaged 34.5 mpg.
On the return journey (top down which does make a difference) I used "sport auto" (all gears, lower gear engaged and always ready to drop two if necessary - (it's seven speed) gears held to max 7,500 rpm - and WHAT a lovely noise btw) pressed on a bit .......and averaged 26.5.
It just goes to show how much your driving style can affect your fuel consumption.

That's it for now, thanks again for your support and enthusiasm - especially to those who traveled from Tyneside and Suffolk.....and watch this space for a late summer outing.......

TonyS

PS for those who went "under the arches" I hope the postman doesn't bring you a letter from Coventry City Council shortly.......
Having said that I went down a bus lane OOOPS! So I'll be watching my own postbox!

Thanks Tony for organising such very enjoyable day.

It was good to catch up with you again and to meet some fine fellow enthusiasts.

Regarding the economy 26.4 mpg overall was averaged at 60/70 mph total distance was 357 miles.

Best Regards Mark.

ps Cheers Mike for directions heading in the right direction at the start tends to help.

Thanks Tony for organisation - Christine and I had a grand day out thank you. Good to meet other enthusiasts too.
I'll be looking for the post with trepidation as I also went through the bus lane. Coventry is one of those frustrating places where you can see you want to go but the road layout is totally counter- intuitive. Well done Coventry town planners - you got me! (And I assume you will claim your prize by post shortly!)
I would include a couple of pictures but the technology is defeating me ( why do these things always have to be too hard for normal people?!!)
Anyway, a good day and looking forward to the next and seeing you all again

Just to add our thanks too Tony much appreciated by Jill and I.

Shame there were not more cars there but maybe the JEC Forums are not as popular as they could be?

Great to meet all those attending and there cars that were there were all stunning. I will keep an eye on this forum as I want to get the XJS to more meetings, I have only had it for 6 months

Catch up soon!!

PS

Jaguar Mike

Thanks for your excellent directions and map. I know I would NEVER have found it otherwise!
Unfortunately Silver Street had no street sign so I took the next left and ended up in a bus cul de sac....
....did a one eighty and no right turn at the top apart from buses...... but I could see Silver Street fifty yards away!
Rather than take a tour of inner Coventry I turned right!
Now waiting for the photos from the Coucil for abusing a bus lane......

Anyway, thanks again Mike :D

Hi all,

thoroughly enjoyed the day, thanks Tony for organizing and those to those who attended. I've never done the tour before and whilst a bit whistle stop, it very informative and allowed one to wonder at will afterwards. The Jaguar display oozed quality I felt next to the other exhibits. Coventry has a lot to answer for, bicycles, motor-cylces, cars (@ 120 car manufacturers over the years) and of course Jaguar (where Prototype are still made at Browns Lane .... bet you didn't know that) and the wood shop it still there (or that ... but it's not owned by Jaguar any more). The only one still in manufacturing in Coventry is London Taxis.

All seemed to enjoy the Thrust SSC simulator too. Worth the visit alone I think, and I've seen it at least half a dozen times!

I watched numerous cars flout the "Buses only" signs and noticed there were not any no entry signs. Don't know if that would get anyone out-of-a-fine but might be worth challenging if ones does appear. The camera was virtually head on on a lamp post near the entrance to the bus station so unless it wasn't running ... but don't worry. How many times have you seen cameras flash and nothing appears?

Thanks all for coming in your fabulous XJS's (incl. Mark who's car was just 228 cars in front of mine on the track in 1993 and the same colour / similar spec.).

As I suspected, Coventry's one way system has written to me to claim a £60 prize for managing to confuse me into going up a bus lane! Souvenir photos included with their claim!
Guess I'll just have to pay up!
