Rack bush removal tool required

Thanks for the replies guys, while the plastic washer thing was a great improvement, I think the bushes themselves are past it. Might have failed the MOT without them. I think it would be very good mod with the standard bushes in new state.

Hi Jon, I finally found the bush extraction tool (back of the shed as usual ) there is one problem though....
The main bolt is bent making the thing useless!
I am attempting to locate (or make) a replacement. The original bolt was 100mm long (M8 thread) but so far the longest I have managed to get is an 80mm long bolt, which I don't think is long enough to do the job.

Question is: Can you wait until I get this sorted or would you prefer I send the tool with the shorter bolt so you can give it a try?

You may be able to source a 100mm long M8 bolt in Nottingham. If you can, then no problem, I'll post the thing up to you as is..

Let me know what you'd prefer.

I'm sure we'll be able to cobble something up / 'borrow' something(working at a large assembly shop has its advantages) . If you send it as is including the bent bolt that would be great.

I was hoping to replace my (slightly perished) sportspack bushes with urathane ones but came across a problem. Unlike the original design, the sportspack bushes have a 'top-hat' shaped steel inner, the diameter of the rim being as large as the rack itself, hence not being able to use an extractor. It looks like the rim will need to be sawn off before extracting the rest of it in the usual fashion, difficult in-situ as I don't want to mark the rack in any way. Has anyone here found a way of removing the bushes without dropping the rack off the car?

My XJRS has the same bushes. I got mine out using lots of WD40, and a suitable socket to drive them with a hammer. Neither the bushes or the rack were damaged (in fact I am going to have to refit them as they are still miles better than the so called sport poly bushes I got from an allegedly expert Jag parts supplier).
