I have a front bumper and over riders for sale if you are interested.

All in very good condition but you would have to collect from near to Gloucester

Just got back from Brum in the MkII after seeing mom (285mile round trip) and the cars goes exceptionally well, even on petrol as I couldn't find a top up of LPG that was working (2 filling stations on the motorway with broken pumps), but the more I look at the car and the more I talk to people about parts re-chromed the more I'm swayed to Derby Plating, expensive but good by all accounts.

That gives me time over the winter to do minor repairs to the top of 2 doors and rebuild 2 steel spats (the fibreglass ones have had it now), then respray the roof and boot lid in the spring. I've enjoyed it for 13 years, but it now deserves some TLC.

Thanks for your comments so far.

Hi Brian

I'm in the wrong place to check receipts, but I think it was Derby I used early 98 and the chrome on the bumbers etc is still good. and the cars run all day in the rain a good few times, not to mention hail showers.
I'll be up in Jockland later next week, if your still interested let me know and I'll see if I can find the receipts and check for you.

Yes please John, I only have a few comments from other forums so your recommendation and confirmation would be much valued. I would hope it gives others in a similar situation a bit more faith in which firms to use.

Hi Brian

Ok, I'll also take a couple of pictures of the bumpers/over riders (rather than bumbers) and grill so you can judge for your self.

Brian,
There is a firm in Mexborough which is referred to as 'small and friendly' on the Harley Davidson site; might be worth a personal visit as they are so near to discuss copper and nickel prep which is the key to lasting work, Details are:-
Prestige Plating, Unit 6, Cliff St. Ind. Estate, Mexborough, S64 9HU. 01709 577004.
There are BS Specs for plating with different grades - assume you know that?
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul,

Ken Jenkins recommended prestige plating, but there are a number of people online who have given them a really bad name, so I was very wary. Hence my asking for personal recommendations.

Some people seem to delight in bad mouthing businesses and others for no good reason so its difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, so thanks for the recommendation and confirmation of Ken.

Brian

PS no I don't know the BS spec for chroming, can you point me to a website for the specs please.

Hi Brian

Ok, done the easy bit of getting the photo's. No luck yet on finding the file for the Mk2, but I have moved house in the that time also, so please bear with me as I will have them.
Will post the name of the company once I find the file.

Well, we did our last event of the year a few weeks ago, thanks Roger for an excellent road run shame you only gave us half the instructions. As it was so close to MOT time I've done that now (better brakes than our old Honda on the rollers, 2 MOT's in a week).

Today we took both bumpers, 6 overiders, 5 hub caps and 8 rim-bellishers for them to find a reasonable set in the S type to Prestige Electroplating in Mexborough. As someone else said very friendly and gave advise and realistic expectations from my parts.

Now to the steelwork repairs, change antifreeze (Bluecol again), fit a new brake light switch and change the brake fluid as its 2 years old.

Will be nice to see your car twinkling again next Spring. Hope the plating comes up to expectations. The Harley Davidson lads seem well satisfied.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice over the chrome, I realised I knew Brian of Prestige Electroplating and had work done by him many years ago.

I'm not looking for a perfect show car, its job is a reliable classic rally and run car, but now has to look nice and shiny as well.

I don't think the car will be painted by spring Paul unless we have some early warm dry weather.
