dead sound system

Postby putterboy » Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:40 am

Hi,

please excuse any c**k ups - this is my first post.

Have a problem in that my radio/cassette/cd doesn't work. ('96 XK8)

The cassette 'locked up' last week - couldn't eject turn up/down or off; turning ignition on/off resulted in same condition.
Tried removing fuses, this seemed to work in that I was able to reject cassette, bu display, along with everything else 'died'. tried removing related fuses again (this seems to activate the cassette drive mechanism as I can hear it moving in the head) but still no other sign of life. Tried hard reset by removing battery - still the same.

Anyone any ideas?
Is there a non-user servicable line fuse behind the head unit in the console?

Any suggestions welcome

Roger G.

It sounds as if the audio unit needs to come out for a clean/repair. Removal isn't that difficult after the 'J' gate trim has been extracted. Use a credit card or similar to unlatch the four plastic tangs holding the 'J' gate trim. Be careful not to break them. Then, extract the the audio console's 6 screws. The rest of the dismantling procedure is straightforward. Mike.
