So is there a space for Facsimile / Replica cars?

Postby SuffolkSS » Sat Mar 10, 2012 10:21 pm

As the owner of a 1999 XJ8 4.0 - it's easy to find where to go..

But where do owners of Suffolk SS100's, Suffolk C-Types, Proteus and Lynx cars etc go here on the BB?
It's already a really fragmented BB site (a reflection of the club perhaps?) and surely there is no need for a "Replicar" section to add to the fragmentation.. Or would that be the suggestion of the powers that be?

Are facsimile/replicas actually welcomed in the JEC or are they seen as a 'poor mans alternative' ?

The quote is from one nameless JEC member to me when I attended a meeting in our XJ. Remarking on a Proteus C Type, he uttered those words - however he didn't know that I'm also the owner of a fantastic Suffolk SS100 - that actually I prefer!

I'm really interested to see what others think... If for no other reason as it may influence my decision as to weather the magazine and a few meetings each year justify my continued subscription to JEC.

I await the replies!!!
An SS100 - Pace, Grace but not much Space!

Hello SS, Firstly I'm not club official, just an ordinary member so I don't know the answer to your question. However, I always click the 'Unread posts' button so that I can scan for anything that interests me. That is how I found your post, if I did, many others can as well I imagine.

Even having a 3.6 xjs life isn't straightforward, the engine is shared with the xj40, suspension with series xj6/12, electrics with V12 xjs etc. so I can understand your frustration.

I've met many members who own everything from a pristine XJ220 to a complete shed of an xjs and have always found a common interest. I've always admired the Suffolk, maybe you would write an introduction about yours, post it here, many others would be very interested I'm sure.
Cheers, Pop

Hi, SS
I have to confess that I don't even know what a Suffolk looks like but if it's Jaguar based then I would think you have something in common with owners of cars upon which yours is based. I own a (modern) S-Type and obviously that is the board I go to first when I log on, followed by the general discussion, then a trawl through others with unread posts to see if there is anything that intereats me. I certainly do not read them all.
You seem quite eloquent so if you have a half decent digital camera why not pen a couple of pages with a few photographs and send it in to the magazine? I'm sure many members - myself included - would find it interesting.
If you know other Suffolk owners why not get together and have a presence at the National meeting, again creating interest among Jaguar enthusiasts.
Just my ten cents worth; best of luck with whatever you decide.

Hi

We do have a lot of replicas within the Club, in fact a few years ago we even had a separate replica magazine.

Roger Williams who makes the Suffolk SS100 is a club member and usually attends our shows, so if other Suffolk owners wish to get involved we would be delighted to host you. We do see quite a lot throughout the year, on our runs and tours as well as at events. Peter Clarke one of our Vice-Presidents, has recently finished building one as well.

We already have the Aristocat makers and members coming to Weston Park, We are also great friends with the Challenger Club and many of their members are also JEC members.
We also like to see the C & D replicas as the originals are so rare and we even have an XJ13 replica that regularly attends.
On a practical level we do offer unparalleled technical advice as so much of what you need is standard Jaguar components and our insurance schemes are also geared to covering replicas at sensible values.

hope this helps make your mind up.

Hi, just to endorse what has already been said by way of response to this post. All Jaguars and Jaguar based specials and replicas are welcome to come along to Weston Park. If we know in advance how many are coming we can allocate dedicated parking.

I hope to see you there.

Kind regards.

Chairman.

:D Hello SS,

As I have just joined the club, I come to this thread late, however, I am awaiting the delivery of my Suffolk SS100 with much excitement.
I can see where you are coming from however, you surely bought the car to enjoy and membership of any club is only an add on so can I suggest that you do just that and rest happy in the knowledge that you have a fantastic car and there are others out here who share your joy.
I am told that in my local (Norfolk) region there is at least one other member with an evocation, that being an Aristocat (XK120) so I shall make a point of searching him out but in any event please keep in touch with me as it would be great to learn from your experience.

Lowebird

I have just answered your post in another part of the forum.
I see you are based in Norfolk I am in southern Lincolnshire (Bourne) and so will keep an eye out for you. I am aware of only one other Suffolk SS100 in this neck of the woods, there is a chap who has a very early TRAC (Suffolk) SS100 which he displays at the monthly Melton Mobray classic car market place meet.

Yours Aye

:D
Neil,
There is another in Dereham which I haven't seen yet but I have spoken to him about it. There is also one which I have seen at the Stoneham Barns Show but I don't know where it lives but I assume it's in Suffolk somewhere, if I see him this year I will ask.
Finally, there was one at Helmingham last year and another at Classics by the Lake near Bury so, as you say, they are about.
I think there is a lot of BS with regard to so called "classics". My current Morgan is a 2011 year and as such I have problems sometimes with the cut off dates at shows however someone with a rubbish Morris Marina is welcomed because of the same cut off date.
Neadless to say, I now tend to frequent more "aware" events, so perhaps that's where other Suffolk owners are?

Regards,
Reg

Oops! I've just posted an equiry about fibreglass-bodied C-type reps (i.e. nowhere near as authentic as Suffolks, even) in the 'C- & D-type / XKSS' section! If that section's reserved for the real thing then I can expect to be cast into a vat of boiling 20W50!

Does anyone within the replica section have any copies of the magazine that was published a while ago, I would like to find out where the other Suffolk SS100 owners are?

Reg

I have not seen it. I shall ask at the Nottingham and Borders regional day tomorrow when the South Lincs and Nottingham club will meet at the Nott's event at Rufford park

Thanks Neil,

I had my first event on Sunday and if photos taken equaled damaged paint then the car would need a complete respray!!

Hello Neil,

I hope you have been out enjoying the car on the odd day of sun!!! I have been following in your footsteps as, at the Norfolk JDC summer BBQ, I too came away with the Car of the Show trophy!
This was against very strong competition from 120 other wonderful cars, seems we have a couple of exceptional cars.

Hello Reg

Well done. What colour is your car?

You can see photos of mine in the vehicle register.

Mine just back from the paint shop after a parking rash. Should you ever need work doing, I have found a great fibre glass specialist near Spalding. You can not see any trace of the damage before he sorted it out.

Neil
