A Day at the Races... Cadwell Park Sunday 2nd July 2006

Postby webman » Tue Jun 06, 2006 3:55 am

You may have read elsewhere of the plan to have an informal meeting of like minded XJS owners at Cadwell Park on Sunday 2nd July 2006.

Chat with other owners, watch the XJS Racing, visit the paddock and the drivers.

Bring a packed lunch. Cadwell is a splendid circuit in Lincolnshire.

Cost: Normal entry fees for Cadwell.

If you are ineterested, leave a note here so we can arrange parking etc

The co-ordinator for the day is dh dove and he will answer any questions.

A Day at the Races- Sunday July 2nd 2006

Postby dhdove » Tue Jun 06, 2006 5:50 am

Welcome to the Cadwell Park Race Day Sticky.
Please post here if you are going to attend to give an idea of numbers.

Parking for Forum members is at "Charlies" curve, turn RIGHT after you enter the circuit, round the left-hander, down the dip and up the other side.
It's a fair old hike to the far side of the circuit so you may wish to use your car during the day to get around.

Lets hope for good weather and an enjoyable days racing.
Best Wishes
DH Dove.

I just want to send my apologies to everyone as I won't be able to attend the Cadwell meeting.
My car is still off the road and I've decided to hire a car for a drive out and a Sunday picnic, but as I had to choose between Cadwell or Harewood House, I've opted for the latter. (hope you didn't mind)

Make sure you take plenty of photos and post them on this forum.

Regards
Gordon

Update #2
Hi everyone
Looks like it's going to be V.HOT 27/28c
Unfortunately Norman cannot attend, but that leaves five cars, which I think is a cosy number.
Bring your hats and sun-block!
See You on Sunday :D

I expect that this is the last thing that you want to hear but I am not now sure that we can make it - we are still clearing up after the bathrrom fitters!!!

I am so sorry but if we can popssibly be there, even for half a day, we will.

Anybody like half a ton of wall tile offcuts?

Best wishes and have a good day. I really do hope that we have another one.

I won't be there tomorrow, but unexpectedly had to travel to Boston, Lincs this morning so decided to trek on up to Cadwell and watch a few hours of the racing. I'm a regular at Silverstone, Brands & Thruxton but this was my first visit to Cadwell. What a lovely circuit! Similar viewing opportunities to Brands but a much more picturesque circuit with a bygone feel to it!

Steve, good to see you - I see what you mean about how difficult that hairpin was!

Charlies is a great place for watching the XJSs and the "Powered by Jaguar" series. By the end of the race when some of the brakes are a bit suspect, the long fast bend makes for some interesting exit routines! You'll really enjoy Charlies as a viewing position.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of marshals, (England playing - What was Rooney doing?! - and the MotoGP @ Donnington, I suspect) they were only using the short circuit, but apparently they will use the full circuit tomorrow. That could make it interesting for novice racers who will be going straight out on the full circuit tomorrow with no practice!

It was really a quiet day there today and there was no problem parking even right up to the fence, in fact it was nigh on deserted! If it's anything like that tomorrow, you'll all have great viewing opportunities.

Have a great day tomorrow and, if you enjoy it, why not come along to Brands in two weeks time?

Drive safely

POSTSCRIPT
I'm sorry that all those who had hoped to attend couldn't, in the end only three BB members could get there, self, Jon and Newbo.
However it was a fine days racing, with everything from Big Cats to Metros.
The weather more than lived up to forecast, though thankfully in the morning there was some overcast. In the afternoon you really needed to seek the shade.
Re the XJS racing Gail Hill did especially well coming 1st on Sat. and 2nd. on Sun.
In the last race of the day on Sunday ""Sports Car v Saloon Car Challenge" I think a special mention goes to Robin North from Peterborough who steered his immaculate yellow 6.3 ltr XJ-S through the field. though, unfortunately he couldn't catch the Porsche's, but boy did he try!
Thankfully on the day all went off safely apart from the odd crumpled Porsche or three, shame.
Our car went up there immaculately, BUT. When we came to lock up on the lunchtime the boot didn't seem to lock on the Central Locking, so I tried it on the key, the whole lock came out of the boot with the key!!!OOPS!
It's now in the Driver's door pocket, any suggestions?
Then when we got to my cousin's on Sunday evening we found we had no rear number plate. I did a quick tour back to Cadwell Park but to no avail. (I guess the heat got to the sticky fixers. (I've never used them before and I'll never use them again!)
Overall, as far as I can tell 27MPG!
Lessons Learnt
I think that these Race meets need to be very informal and cannot be too organised. Circuits are big places and people can arrive at any point during the day. Also everyone wants to see all the parts of the circuit so you can't really be tied to one place apart from the initial meet-up. Thats assuming that everyone can get there by a certain time and some may be travelling long distances.
A roving mobile phone contact seems by far the best way to go...
HI We're just arriving........
YES At the moment we're .........here.
So thats it, nice to meet you Jon and Steve, we'll look forward to the next time.
For those who couldn't go, try the next one, I know you'll have fun.
Best Wishes

I am glad it went well and that you had a good time. I kept thinking about you as we went to the council tip with an upturned bath on the roof rack of our Daimler XJ40! It certainly turned a few heads for perhaps the wrong reasons.

Hopefully there will be another chance

Best wishes

Yes, it was a good day, it was nice to meet dh dove and later GlennH (just when we thought he had deserted us 8) .

My only regret is not putting on any sunblock as my neck and arms are now a rather radiant shade!

dh dove, your back number plate has made a fine addition to my 'hall of fame' 8) only kidding. I did see your car near the paddock later on though not sure where you'd got to, it was still attached then! :)
