2009 xfr

I am tempted by the above model.Having owned my xkr 4.2s for 4 years (2005 carbon fibre LE) The xfr feels very luxurious and not surprisingly much more modern.Does anyone have experience of both cars or just an informed opinion? Also these particular models do not appear in Glasses guide and I think that the dealers under value them.My car has 48000 miles and full dealer history. Also I am worried that the extra electronic gizmos may not age well,ie electronic h/brake,touch screen and audio.Paul

Hi Paul,
Cannot comment directly on these specific models but I just upgraded from an 06 S Type to a 09 XF Portfolio and it was like chalk and cheese. The XF is definitely designed with the 21st century in mind. Wrt to the electronics, inevitably with more electronics on the cars, they do suffer more problems but that is the same for all marques BMW, Audis and Mercs. I would not be too worried about the handbrake that is "old" technology through the S Type; the touch screens and related spare parts if needed are freely available "used" on either ebay or via suppliers such as Eurojag, not heard of anyone having a problem with the audio - however parking sensors(!) don't get me started!

What do other luminaries on the forum think?

Hi Paul

Like Ray I can't comment directly on XK or XFR. I have had my second XF Portfolio S (2013 model year) for 5 months and it is a much superior vehicle to my previous XF Portfolio S (2010 model year).

Apart from an intermittent fault with the park brake, which eventually went away, I have had no trouble with either the touch screen or audio systems. Both cars had/have the Bowers and Wilkins powerful system.

I can't imagine you'd be disappointed by an XF V8.

Hugh
