Water leak

Postby drb100 » Sun Jun 11, 2006 10:44 am

:( Have just acquired a 1994 4.0 auto with damp underfelt. The floor is rusty in places both front & rear. I belive the problem may be the screen. I was intending to have the screen removed, have some paintwork done & a new screen fitted. I do not think there has been loads of water, the areas are otherwise clean. It would seem that the previous owner was unaware of the problem so did not attempt a remedy. Is this the best way forward? Any suggestions appreciated.

Welcome to the JEC forums 8)

it may well be the screen ,

but you may also want to check a place by the bonnet resting bolts on the windscreen scuttle, these have small rubber tops on the bolts a few inches from the windscreen wipers, the reason for this is the scuttle can rot out in this area,

also the aircon system may be leaking into the passenger footwell , its not aircon as such , but condensate from the cooling action

and finally , the heater matrix, make sure the coolant level isnt dropping for this one

hope you get it sorted

I've heard that if the aircon condensate drains get blocked, this can be the result. Might be worth checking.

I think it more likely that he was very aware of the problem which is why it was for sale
However, no 12 year old car whatever make or model will be free of problems, so at least you are among friends who will guide you along.
